Welcome to CERVIS!

We have officially switched to CERVIS from Bloomerang as of June 1. All volunteers must create an account in CERVIS using the link provided to sign up for shifts. Please note that we will lose access to Bloomerang on June 10, but all hours will be pulled from the system prior to that for any confirmation letters needed in the future.
Go ahead and bookmark this! CERVIS Login/Signup Page: here.
We were able to transfer some data over from Bloomerang, so some volunteers may already have an account and possibly some shifts in June set up for them, you will just need to create your login to proceed. Please double check that you are signed back up for all the shifts you need!
Step-by-step guide to help you get started: here.
Group leaders: We were able to transfer most existing group reservations over from Bloomerang from June through the end of the calendar year, and you will hear from a member of our team to confirm you are in the new system. If you would like to sign your group up for a new shift, please submit a Group Request Form to get on the calendar.
Group Request Form: here.
We appreciate your patience while we navigate this switch and are grateful that you are jumping on board with a new system. We are hopeful that CERVIS is much easier to learn and use long-term for both volunteers and staff, and that it will simplify our processes.
Important Changes:
- CERVIS does not have an app, but can be used on the web or on mobile.
- Do you volunteer with a family member or a client? You can now add them directly to your account!
- Group sign up procedure is streamlined for both staff and volunteers.
- More to come as we figure out how to best use our new system!
What Has Not Changed:
- Our opportunities, including when and where those take place.
- Our policies (age requirement, attire, and so on).
- Our need for volunteers! See below for ways to get involved this summer.

Summer Feeding
The Community Meals Team is gearing up for the Summer Feeding season, and we need volunteers to help us meet our production goals! If you volunteered with us last year, you know just how busy we were, as we added thousands of extra meals to the schedule just for kids out of school for the summer, in addition to our year-round commitments. This year, we are extra-extra busy—in fact, we are expecting to triple our numbers from last year! To make this happen, we are adding 10 additional volunteer slots each morning!

This is typically our slowest season for volunteers, despite the increase in need. That’s why we are asking for your help to spread the word and volunteer with us this Summer. Whether you and your coworkers are looking for a team-building opportunity, you’re looking for meaningful ways to spend time with older kids while they’re on Summer Break, or you just have a few hours to spare, we’d love to have you!

Erin has been a wonderful addition to our Guest and Volunteer Services Teams over the past year, and we are expanding her role to full-time, giving her greater capacity to engage and support our community. | | Congratulations to Monica Schoenfield on her new role as Philanthropy Coordinator! Monica will soon join the Philanthropy Team where she will be supporting our donors and development operations. You won’t have to miss her though—she will be greeting volunteers most days with our front desk crew! | | | | |
Farewell Ethan!
If you’ve volunteered in the mornings with our Community Meals team anytime in the past year, you’ve probably met Ethan Lee!
You may not know that Ethan first joined us with the IDS class from West Forsyth, and last May, he started coming on his own. Ethan has shown up consistently, worked hard, and become such a memorable part of our volunteer family along the way.
As part of the Diploma Track Occupational Course of Study through the local school system, Ethan has spent years balancing classroom learning with hands-on job training and vocational skill-building—all preparing him for greater independence and opportunity ahead.
Since last May when he began volunteering independently, Ethan has contributed more than 324 hours across 106 shifts! What an incredible commitment. He has made a real difference in our kitchen and for our neighbors.
Now, Ethan is graduating and heading into his next adventure, and we couldn’t be more proud of him. Thank you, Ethan, for the time, kindness, and joy you brought to Community Meals. We’ll miss seeing you around the kitchen. You’ll always have a place here, so come back and visit us anytime!
| | Volunteer Spotlight: Alisha Reid | | |
If you’ve already spotted our summer mailing, you might recognize a familiar face: Alisha Reid!
Alisha is a Reading Interventionist at Julian Gibson Elementary School, where she’s taught first, second, fourth, and fifth graders. When she isn’t sharing her love for reading and science with her students, or enjoying her own favorite hobbies like cross-stitching, biking, and swimming, she’s looking out for her community.
Alisha knows firsthand that when the final school bell rings for summer, a lot of kids face a tough reality. For thousands of children across Northwest North Carolina, summer vacation means losing access to the reliable school meals they count on.
That’s exactly why she’s so passionate about our summer campaign. For Alisha, volunteering here is "a unique way to connect with a community of like-minded people who all love helping others get the exact resources they need to thrive" she says.
Instead of taking a break, she brings her energy right into our headquarters, volunteering throughout the organization to help keep local families fed all summer long.
Want to join Alisha in helping local kids this summer? Together, we can make sure every child stays well-fed and ready for a bright future.

Second Harvest Food Bank is an Official Sponsor for WS Pride!
Studies show that members of the LGBTQ+ community face disproportionately higher rates of food insecurity. That is why Second Harvest is proud to be an official sponsor of Winston-Salem Pride this year!
We are committed to breaking down barriers to food access and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our neighbors to build a more equitable community for everyone.
Stop by our booth at the festival to learn how we are working together to feed community, fuel hope, and ensure everyone has a seat at the table.

We have another Food Drive coming up this month! Having extra hands available to receive donations is always appreciated, but these food drives also present a unique opportunity to engage with our neighbors and hear their stories.
