FARM2PANTRY

The Farm2Pantry program is in full swing. Gardeners are hard at work prepping the community gardens in Middlebury and West Akron and look forward to the spring weather so they can begin planting the gardens! The pantry clients in the Middlebury neighborhood voted on their favorite vegetables and the gardens will be growing all of their favorites. The West Akron neighborhood will be completing the produce survey at the May, we look forward to seeing the results.

The goal of Farm2Pantry is to improve access to fresh, healthy produce to neighborhoods in need. By linking community gardens with local food pantries, neighborhoods will be able to benefit from a self-sustaining food network.

MIDDLEBURY - JEWETT PARK

Don’t mind our dust! In late May, the project commenced with the removal of old playground equipment and the regrading of park property to make it accessible to all users.

Calling all volunteers! Jewett Park build week is September 8 – 10, 2022. We need volunteers to construct the new play space, including building the playground and planting flowers. No special skills, training or tools are required! If you are someone you know are interested, use the link below to sign-up for a time slot.

WEST AKRON - KERR PARK

Kerr Park will be hosting the 2nd Annual Maple Valley Community Festival on Friday, June 10th - 12th. The festival will celebrate the community all weekend, with an outdoor movie, games, food and a table’s set-up with all the local organizations. The Kerr Park planning team will be at the festival sharing the Kerr Park enhancements with the community as well as sharing in the excitement of the community celebrations!

BARBERTON

Active Transportation Plan

The City of Barberton continues to have success in developing an active transportation plan to increase the safety, usability, and awareness of many ways people travel to their destinations in and around town. The steering committee met in May to develop a map that identifies important destinations in Barberton that would benefit from increased accessibility by walking, rolling, or bicycling. Look out for upcoming community engagement events so you can take a look at the map and add your destinations and feedback!
