Dear Families of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School,

Happy Easter! I pray your families had a wonderful Easter!

This Saturday, our community will gather in support of our students at the Glitz, Glam and Gatsby Gala! Each year, we have a special project designated as our “Raise the Paddle” project. This is the culmination of the Live Auction and always centers us back on what all fundraising is about: our students. As mentioned in last week’s Gala Newsletter, this year’s Raise the Paddle proceeds will be dedicated to the safety and security of our campus with the installation of a perimeter fence in the back of campus.

Much thought, effort, research and consultation with law enforcement and safety experts went into the selection of this project as well as the location of the actual fence. When looking at things from a safety perspective, all experts consulted share that the priority is securing the perimeter and having a smaller space for supervision. A more contained space allows for an increased level of protection. The fence will begin at the building corner adjacent to the third-grade classrooms, extending past the basketball courts, and running alongside the playground, following the sidewalk to enclose the entire grassy area, including the GaGa pits and picnic tables. Additionally, we will level the greenspace creating a better play and social zone for students. Securing this area not only safeguards students from the parking lot but also ensures continued access to outdoor spaces during busy campus events like funerals, food pantry distributions and other special events. Additionally, it bolsters security for students during dismissal and those participating in Beyond the Bell and after-school activities.

Whether you are able to attend the Gala or not, I hope that all will consider giving to this project which benefits all students, families and staff. You may “Raise your Paddle” after the Live Auction tomorrow or go to https://apschool.givesmart.com and click DONATE. Let’s work together to raise the $110,000 needed to take this vital step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of our St. Anthony of Padua Family!

MESSAGE FROM A FRASSATI FALCON

Hello, SAOP family! My name is Kathryn Vieceli (SAOP '20). Within daily life in middle school, students have probably used their phones as a distraction to take them out of the present moment--especially when they’ve needed an escape hatch from an awkward situation. Along with three of my senior classmates from Frassati Catholic High School, I've started noticing that "phone snubbing" is one way we use technology to unplug from real people and real life--and the four of us have created a project to "Look Up" and "Stop the Snub." We're coming to SAOP's gym and carline next Monday 4/8 and Wednesday 4/10 between 3:00 and 4:00 pm to promote our new website and to share a family challenge with you. We want to share our resources--and, even more, to share the joy of staying "plugged in" to the real people and moments that make life free and beautiful! Parents and middle schoolers, keep an eye out for us next April 8th and 10th: Shannon, Sofia, Thomas and I will be in our Falcon blue, with flyers and posters, ready to talk and answer questions.
