Dear Families of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School,

As you are probably aware, there will be a total solar eclipse on April 8th. We are excited that this will happen during the school day giving our students and staff the opportunity to learn about this rare event and the awesomeness of our God and the beauty of our Earth. While St. Anthony of Padua misses the path of totality by approximately 100 miles or so, we will still have 95% coverage. As always, student safety is our top concern. The only safe way to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses”. Per NASA, homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun. We have purchased these glasses for all students and staff. The purchased glasses are ISO certified and NASA recommended eclipse glasses to be worn during the time of the eclipse (approximately 12:20 p.m. to 1:40 p.m.). We are taking precautionary measures including pre-education to make students aware of the risks involved in directly looking at the sun. As the event gets closer, please speak with your child about the importance of following instructions and of keeping their eclipse glasses on at all times during this event. Please use the link below to fill out a permission form and indicate whether you DO or DO NOT want your child to attend outdoor activities this day. The form must be filled out for each child in your family. We will allow students who are not allowed to watch the eclipse outside watch the livestream of the eclipse in their classrooms. If you have any questions about what will be happening in your student’s classroom, please reach out to your student’s teacher.

DOLPHIN ATHLETICS

This Week in Dolphins Sports:

• Wednesday, March 20 the Dolphins baseball team took on the Crusaders of Christ the Redeemer here at St. Anthony. The Dolphins fell 11 to 1.
• Friday, March 22 the Dolphins will play the Covenant Christian Warriors here at St Anthony at 4:30 PM.
• The Dolphins Track team will compete in their first meet of the season tomorrow - Saturday, March 23 - at Barnett Stadium.

• Wednesday, March 27: Dolphins Baseball team is on the road again to battle the Wildcats of Assumption Catholic School at 4:00 PM.
