The Fight for Democracy Needs a Voice – That Voice is WBAI

WBAI needs to raise $250,000 to stay on the air for the next couple of months and continue to report on the Trump/Musk assault on democracy, diversity, unions, and our immigrant families.

That’s not a lot of money when you consider the stakes and the hundreds of billions at the disposal of the oligarchs enabling what’s happening in Washington D.C.

As I write this note, the federal government has seized $80,000,000 dollars from the coffers of the City of New York, money that was appropriated by Congress. It was needed to help pay for the cost of caring for the over 200,000 immigrants sent here by the Republican Governor of Texas Greg Abbott in hopes of upending our local politics.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Elon Musk, the world's richest man elected by no one, is reorganizing the federal government and closing government agencies that were investigating him and his sprawling empire very much reliant on billions of government contracts.

We knew we were in for a rough ride when President Trump pardoned the 1,500 rioters who executed the Jan. 6 violent assault on the US Capitol in a bid to derail the certification of the 2020 election.

Our political system, the corporate news media, and our courts have failed to hold President Trump accountable.

It’s up to We the People, and we need this radio station and its Pacifica network.

Our payroll is $50,000 a month and our tower rent is $17,000. Rent, business services, fees for licensing the music you hear, postage, and phones are another $15,000.

We haven’t gotten Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant money in over a decade. We do rely on some union support, but that’s about it for institutional backing.

So, does WBAI-Pacifica survive the Trump/Musk junta?

That’s up to you.
