The Bowie Dispatch was selected as a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker finalist last week. This is the 7th straight Pacemaker finalist the publication has earned, and we have won 6 of them. We will find out in November if the streak continues. There were 35 school selected finalists for this prestigious national award. We have consistently been in the top-25 Nationally for the past seven years.

In addition, NSPA announced the top 10 finalists for the Individual Awards in a variety of individual contests and categories. The Dispatch has multiple students in the running for the top 1st place prize. In fact, the publication had finalists in 10 categories. They are:

Design of the year: Newspaper spread/Design – 2024 graduate Mazzy Warren (nominated twice in this category)

Design of the year: Infographic of the Year – 2024 graduate Mazzy Warren

Digital Story: Multimedia Feature of the Year – 2024 graduates Nick Wood, Mars Canepa, Noah Bihan, Alex Edwards

Digital Story: Multimedia Sports Story of the year – 2024 graduates Noah Bihan, Nick Wood, Austin Ikard and current Bowie students Will Olenick, Slyder Degelia

Photo of the Year: Environmental portrait of the year – 2024 graduate Austin Ikard

Story of the Year: Sports Story of the year – 2024 graduate Ben Tillisch

Portfolio of the Year: Artist of the year – 2024 graduate Asher Hagan

Portfolio of the Year: Designer of the year – 2024 graduate Mazzy Warren

Portfolio of the Year: Multimedia Journalist of the year – 2024 graduate Austin Ikard

This is the most individual nominations the Dispatch has ever received. We have had multiple students win first place in Individual categories and we are hopeful that we will return with more in November. More to come about these award as well as the Pacemaker nomination.
