SEPTEMBER 1, 2026

A new month brings more opportunities to share life at LHUMC! After a Sunday spent strengthening relationships and gathering for supper, we’re heading into September with ways to connect, serve, and grow in faith. Whether you can lend a hand in a classroom, help with a church project, or spend a quiet Wednesday evening in prayer, we hope you’ll find a place to join in.

THIS WEEK

MEN’S TUESDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL

Every Tuesday | 8 to 9:30 p.m. | Great Hall

Men are invited to join us Tuesday evenings for basketball, friendly competition, and fellowship. Whether you’re a regular player or simply looking for a fun way to get moving and connect with others, come play when you can and bring a friend. Open to LHUMC members and friends.

HOLY COMMUNION & CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER

Wednesday, September 2 | 6:30 p.m. | Chapel

Join us on Wednesday evenings for a quiet service of Holy Communion and contemplative prayer. This weekly service offers space to slow down, pray, and experience God’s presence in the middle of the week.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

BETTER TOGETHER: A MARRIAGE WORKSHOP

On Sunday afternoon, counselors Jay and Amy Wright led couples in exploring communication, conflict resolution, and connection at our Better Together marriage workshop. It was an opportunity to invest in their relationships and practice skills for navigating life together. Thank you to Jay and Amy and everyone who joined us!

ALL-CHURCH SUPPER

Our church family gathered in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday evening for pizza and fellowship across generations. It was a joy to share a meal and spend time together! Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped with the evening’s preparations and cleanup.

WAYS TO SERVE

VOLUNTEER IN CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL

Our Children’s Ministry is looking for a few caring adults to help make Sunday mornings safe, welcoming, and meaningful for our kids. Whether you prefer supporting behind the scenes or leading a small group, there’s a role that fits your availability and comfort level.

BE AN EXTRA SET OF EYES

Help keep classrooms running smoothly during Sunday School by being present, attentive, and supportive. No teaching or preparation is required, only your presence and care. Serving even once in a while makes a big difference.

LEAD A CHILDREN'S SMALL GROUP

Leading a small group is simple and impactful. You’ll guide a brief discussion using questions we provide, then close with prayer (no prep needed). A commitment of just two or three Sundays per semester helps create consistency and community for our kids.

HELP CARE FOR OUR CHURCH

Enjoy fixing things? Have an hour or two to spare each month? Our Trustees team is looking for volunteers to help with repairs and improvement projects around the church.

To join our handy-person list, contact Trustees Chair Jeni Love at lhwildcats@aol.com or Pastor Andy at andyr@lhumc.com.

SUPPORT THE FEED LAKE HIGHLANDS FOOD PANTRY

Our partners at Feed Lake Highlands provide food and other essentials to neighbors living on fixed, limited, and low incomes. You can support this important ministry by donating needed items or volunteering at The New Room.

DONATE ITEMS

Drop off in the buckets in the LHUMC Narthex anytime or at The New Room (10061 Whitehurst Drive, Suite 100) on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Current needs include frozen meat (no pork, please), shelf-stable juice, peanut butter, canned chicken and tuna, family-sized cereal, canned fruit, paper products, personal and dental hygiene items, and cleaning supplies.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are needed to receive and organize donations on Tuesdays and help prepare and distribute food on Wednesdays. Most shifts are approximately two hours, with several times and roles available.

Minors ages 6–15 must serve alongside a parent or guardian, and all volunteers under 18 must submit a minor volunteer waiver.

MORE WAYS TO SERVE

There are many other ways to support the ministries of LHUMC. Current opportunities include:

  • Serving on the Sunday hospitality team
  • Contributing diapers and baby essentials to Seeds of Support
  • Helping with childcare during Seeds of Support Friday morning classes
