Summer is full at LHUMC! This week, children’s camps continue, Wednesday evening opportunities begin, and there are meaningful ways to serve our neighbors through Project Transformation, Seeds of Support, and Feed Lake Highlands. Take a look at what’s happening this week and what’s coming up next.

THIS WEEK

SUMMER FUN DAYS

July 7–9, July 14–16, July 21–23 | Ages 2–6, up to rising 1st grade | 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Cost: $150 per session

Summer Fun Days gives children a fun-filled time of making friends, moving, dancing, singing, crafting, and learning about God’s love for them. Each session includes age-appropriate activities centered around a weekly theme, including Winter Wonderland, Summer Songs, and Nature Week.

CREATIVE ARTS CAMP

July 7–9, July 14–16, July 21–23 | Ages 7–10, rising 2nd–5th grade | 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Cost: $150 per session

God is our Creator, and we are created in God’s image. Creative Arts Camp invites kids to explore their creativity through fun arts and crafts centered around God’s amazing story. No experience is required.

HOLY COMMUNION & CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER

Wednesdays, July 8–September 2 | 6:30 p.m. | Chapel

Join us on Wednesday evenings for a quiet service of Holy Communion and contemplative prayer. This weekly service offers space to slow down, pray, and experience God’s presence in the middle of the week.

THE SHAPE OF GRACE: EXPLORING JOHN WESLEY’S SERMONS

Wednesdays, July 8–September 2 | 7 to 8 p.m. | Room A117

Explore John Wesley’s sermons and the foundations of Methodist theology in this weekly study. Together, we’ll reflect on grace, faith, and how Wesley’s words continue to shape our lives today.

ONE & DONE SUMMER CHOIR

July 12 | Rehearsal at 10:15 a.m. | Sing during 11 a.m. Worship

Love to sing but can’t commit to choir every week? Join the One & Done Summer Choir for one Sunday at a time. No choir experience or ongoing commitment is required. Just come to rehearsal at 10:15 a.m. and sing during 11 a.m. worship.

WAYS TO SERVE

BE A BOOKWORM BUDDY WITH PROJECT TRANSFORMATION

Volunteer with Project Transformation this week at Owenwood UMC and help elementary-aged students maintain and strengthen their reading skills this summer. Serve one day or multiple days from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Background check and MinistrySafe training required.

DONATE TO THE SOS SCHOOL SUPPLY & BACKPACK DRIVE

Help Seeds of Support provide local students with the supplies they need for a strong start to the school year. We are collecting new backpacks and school supplies now through July 31. Donations may be dropped off at LHUMC at Entrance D.

Needed items include new backpacks, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, folders, notebook paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, erasers, and pencil boxes or pouches.

This is a simple, meaningful way to support children and families in our community as they prepare for a new school year. Thank you for helping us share care, encouragement, and practical support with our neighbors.

HELP FILL THE FEED LAKE HIGHLANDS FOOD PANTRY

Feed Lake Highlands is a nonprofit ministry serving neighbors across Lake Highlands by providing food and support to families experiencing food insecurity.

You can support Feed Lake Highlands by donating items to their food pantry. Most-needed items include cereal, canned tuna, chicken, or meat, mac & cheese, pasta sauce (no glass jars), toilet paper, and brown paper bags.
