River to Sea TPO Announces New Name

The River to Sea TPO is pleased to announce that it will now be operating under the name Volusia-Flagler Transportation Planning Organization (VFTPO). As part of the TPO’s Apportionment Plan approved earlier this year, the TPO expanded its Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA) Boundary to cover all of Flagler County and will now cover both Volusia and Flagler Counties in their entirety. This expansion provides improved transportation planning coordination between all agency partners and allows the TPO to plan and implement a comprehensive regional transportation plan that considers the current and future growth occurring across the entirety of Volusia and Flagler Counties.  Renaming the TPO to the Volusia-Flagler TPO provides an identity that reflects the geographic area that we cover. In future documents and plans, you will soon see a new brand identity that reflects our new name. Initially, we have launched our new logo and in the coming months we will be designing and implementing our new website: www.VFTPO.org.

FDOT Multimodal Workshop: From Doorstop to Destination

As part of the 9th annual Mobility Week, on October 29, Volusia-Flagler TPO staff participated in a workshop that looked at successful first/last mile transit connections. The full-day event featured first/last mile presentations including an overview of the City of DeBary's Downtown Master Plan given by City Manager Carmen Rosamonda. The afternoon sessions featured a Lymmo (bus) ride or micro-mobility (seated or standing scooters) tour to Orlando's Lynx Central Station where first/last mile connections were surveyed. A group exercise was then conducted that looked at various intermodal transfer stations and invited discussion on ways to improve connections to/from them. TPO staff was able to ride SunRail for free both to and from the workshop as part of "Try Transit Tuesday."

Take the SUN Trail Survey

Trailblazers Wanted! 🔆

If you travel along Florida’s Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) trails, FDOT needs your help! You play an integral role in the development of trail segments. QR-coded signs are available along the SUN Trails for you to provide input. 📱

If you find a QR code along your route, take a moment to scan it with your phone camera and complete the 1-minute, 5-question survey for the trail. Every QR code is different, so keep scanning! The information you share will inform and support the planning of future bicycle and pedestrian trails. 🌳 Happy Scanning! 🤳🏻 For more information on the SUN Trail network click here.

Plan Ahead for a Safe Thanksgiving Celebration

Always drive 100% sober. Even one alcoholic beverage could be one too many.

Plan ahead: Before you have even one drink, designate a sober driver to get you home safely. If you wait until you’ve been drinking to make this decision, you might not make the best one.

You have options to get home safely: designate a sober driver or call a taxi or rideshare. Getting home safely is always worth it.

If it’s your turn to be the designated driver, take your job seriously and don’t drink.

If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact local law enforcement.

If you have a friend who is about to drink and drive, take the keys away and let a sober driver get your friend home safely.

The Cost of Drunk Driving

The financial impact of impaired-driving crashes is devastating; crashes in which alcohol was the cause resulted in $57 billion in economic costs.

Drinking and driving is a risk no one should take. Doing so can cause injury or death to the driver, passengers, and others on the road. The consequences of drunk driving could be life-altering.
