Is your tree thirsty? Tree care tips to help your tree survive a hot, dry summer.

Summer Tree Care

While the midpeninsula’s summer has been mild, much of the nation and world are experiencing extreme heat events. One invaluable benefit of shade trees is their ability to keep neighborhoods up to 6-10 degrees cooler than neighborhoods without the shade of a thriving urban forest.

Other benefits of urban trees are that they:

  • Enhance public health
  • Create vibrant, livable communities
  • Help water soak into the soil, replenishing groundwater
  • Combat climate change
  • Represent a water-efficient investment: a well-managed urban forest saves more water than it consumes!

Trees are the most valuable element of our green infrastructure because of the benefits they provide and the investment they represent. Join Canopy in protecting our urban forest and safeguarding our water resources by following these water-wise tree care tips.

Inspect Your Tree's Health

Summer is a great time to inspect the overall health of your tree. While the crown is full, inspect your tree for any signs of pest damage, disease, or rot. Learn about tree pests and diseases that may affect your tree. If you suspect disease, use Canopy’s online Arborist List to consult a certified arborist.

From the desk of Canopy’s Interim Executive Director

At the start of Fiscal Year 2023-24, I would like to share my heartfelt gratitude to everyone in the Canopy community for your hard work, support, and contributions this past year!

It’s been an honor to be part of this impactful work since mid February when I stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director to work alongside the amazing staff team. During this transition period, I’ve also been working with the Transition Task Force to search for Canopy’s new Executive Director, and am happy to report that there has been exciting momentum. Stay tuned for more news soon.

In the new fiscal year, we are also joined by several new colleagues on the Board as well as Staff, who share the same conviction for Canopy’s mission and the same optimism for a brighter future as the rest of the team.

I look forward to continuing to partner with you all to continue to grow healthy trees and healthy communities where they are needed the most!

Gratefully,

Kammy Lo

Catherine Martineau legacy fund

Thank you for growing a tree-filled future in Catherine’s honor!

This spring we invited our community to celebrate the impact of retired Executive Director Catherine Martineau through the Catherine Martineau Legacy Fund. We are so grateful to the 165+ donors who joined us in a special spring campaign that wrapped up June 30. Thanks to your generosity, we exceeded our match fund goal of $50,000 and reached 97% of the way to our total goal, raising more than $292,000. This support makes possible the legacy of Catherine’s time with Canopy–planting trees on the mid-peninsula where they are needed most. All our thanks to the expanded Canopy community.
