Monthly News & Updates

May 2025 | Issue 45

Welcome to the Every Brain Matters monthly newsletter. We are a non-profit organization founded by families negatively impacted by commercial marijuana. We are committed to empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate the challenges surrounding the normalization of marijuana.

Through education, advocacy, and community, we aim to ensure that no one walks this path alone. Join us as we work together to make informed choices and foster understanding because every brain truly matters!

*Throughout this newsletter, the terms “marijuana” and “cannabis” are used interchangeably.

Spotlight

Sharing your child’s mental health struggles, or the loss of their life due to drug use, overdose, or suicide, requires immense courage and love. While it can honor their memory and serve as a cautionary tale for others, it often triggers a wave of complex emotions known as a vulnerability hangover—a deeply uncomfortable but common experience.

Please continue reading to learn about vulnerability hangovers and to listen to a heartfelt conversation with Dr. Crystal Collier and Laura Stack from Johnny's Ambassadors in the provided link in the blog.

Advocacy In Action

Every Brain Matters is more than an organization—we are a national movement of families united to educate communities and advocate for change.

EBM State Chapters

  • Members of state chapters join a drug prevention or mental health coalition, attend quarterly meetings, and participate in our THC Effects Poster Project. If you are interested in forming an EBM state chapter, please attend our next meeting.

A Class Action lawsuit is forming in Illinois. If you or a loved one has been negatively affected by any cannabis products bought from an Illinois state store in the past two years, please get in touch with Nick Villicana at villicananick44@gmail.com

Moment of Science

Through our Dispensing Truth project, Every Brain Matters equips communities with science-based tools to challenge marijuana misinformation using appealing graphics and clear facts.

The Voices of Marijuana's Harms

Misconceptions about marijuana as a "harmless substance" remain pervasive. Our mission is to empower the public and government officials with real stories from families who’ve experienced marijuana's devastating effects. You can learn more about this project here.

This month, we feature a letter from Mar-Anon, a 12-Step program for people affected by another person's marijuana use.

Hope For Recovery

We understand that families often feel isolated in a world where marijuana use is becoming increasingly normalized. Supporting a loved one who is affected by marijuana can be overwhelming. To assist you, we have created resources for family recovery that will help you navigate this new era of widespread marijuana use. We aim to help you discover healing pathways, gain valuable recovery tools, and build healthier relationships. We invite you to attend our family support meetings and utilize our resources.

In June, we feature Rich C., President of Marijuana Anonymous.

In July, we feature Quisha King, host and producer of the Put Yo Phone Down Podcast.
