Greetings:
It is with great honor, pride and humility that I continue to serve the students, parents, and community members of District 1. As the school year is now in full swing, I want to express how proud and pleased I have been to see our students, faculty, and staff in our schools teaching and learning with passion, conviction, and purpose. Thank you all for your continued work in improving the learning and lives of our students and uplift of our community. I continue to be extremely proud of the perseverance, collective resolve and resilience of our community.
As the year progresses, lets continue to encourage our students, teachers, faculty, and staff to remain engaged in educational enrichment and committed to success so that we can continue on our journey to improve the lives of our youth. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do. I look forward to your continued support, encouragement, and efforts.

Dr. Gallon continues to be actively engaged in his role as a policy maker as he successfully proffered School Board agenda items that received approval and support from the Board at the August 2022 & October 2022 School Board Meeting.

M-DCPS New Teacher Orientation |
|
Dr. Gallon had a great start of the morning speaking to nearly 500 new teachers at the Miami-Dade County Public Schools New Teacher Orientation held on August 5, 2022.
“The core technology of education occurs in the classroom. What you do in the classroom will touch and turn around the learning and lives of children. I know. 35 years ago it was done for me." -Dr. Steve Gallon III

2022-2023 Superintendent's Opening of Schools Address |
|
The excitement continued at the 2022-2023 Superintendent’s Opening of Schools Address. Being at the historic Miami Senior High School brought back past memories that span nearly 30 years of launching the new school year with colleagues and friends for Dr. Gallon.
He also gave a huge salute to Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres for a great opening of school message.

Dr. Gallon wrapped up his eventful Friday inspired to close out the afternoon with students and youth from Miami Gardens and the surrounding communities speaking about the power of education as they concluded an exciting and engaging summer experience and prepared for the upcoming school year.
He also gave thanks to Ebony Johnson and the Resource Room team for the invitation and Miami Carol City Senior High Principal Kenneth Williams for hosting.

A Letter to My Younger Self |
|
On August 8, 2022, Dr. Gallon had a powerful morning filming a segment for The Grio entitled “A Letter to My Younger Self.”
This series, by The Grio which is an American television network and website with news, opinion, entertainment and video content geared toward Black Americans.
Originally launched in June 2009 as a division of NBC News, it became a division of MSNBC in 2013.
Dr. Gallon's letter was written to Steve in the Spring of 1987, and talks about his HBCU experience at FAMU, as well as offers advice, insight, and a summary of the life ahead.
He gave a special shout out Symone Davis and Jared Liverpool for their professionalism and vision in this powerfully reflective production.

Urban Boards Alliance Symposium |
|
At the Urban Boards Alliance Symposium held in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Gallon was excited to engage with educational leaders from around the country on addressing issues and creating solutions to improve student learning and urban systems.
While there, he presented a breakout session entitled, “In Pursuit of Educational and Economic Equity; Paradigms, Policies and Practices in the 4th Largest School District in the Nation”.
He ended his stay by delivering a powerful unscripted closing message and charge to School Board and educational leaders from around the nation that left many surprised that he didn't utilize notes or cue cards.

Dr. Gallon was excited to celebrate the academic, achievement, attitude, and positive actions of his students at the first 2022-2023 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony hosted at Lake Stevens Middle School.

On September 15, 2022, Dr. Gallon joined Lunch with Legacy Leaders as he and Ann Marie Sorrell issues impacting the new school year in Miami Dade County and educational issues impacting the State of Florida.

Youth Entrepreneurship Summit |

Dr. Gallon was excited to join Councilwoman Shannon Campbell at the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit. It was a great opportunity for him to share his personal and professional journey and related decisions that provided financial independence.
Education and Entrepreneurship are keys to longstanding success.

2022-2023 District 1 Student Advisory Committee Introductory Meeting |
|
Dr. Gallon had an amazing start of the day with the 2022-2023 District 1 Student Advisory Committee Members. These K-8, Middle, and Senior High School students represent their schools in District 1.
Dr. Gallon has always believed in and practiced what he coined as the “Law of Proximity”—simply put meaning that persons closest to an issue are in the best position to provide insight, ideas, and intellect for improvement and/or solutions.
"Our students will ultimately be the “winners” or “losers” based on decisions we make or don’t make as it pertains to their learning and lives. Today, they've provided me with tremendous insight in an open, safe space regarding their schools and learning," stated Dr. Gallon.

NAACP Freedom Fund Sneaker Fund |
|
On October 2, 2022, Dr. Gallon stood honored and humbled to deliver the Keynote Address at the NAACP Freedom Fund Sneaker Gala.
He gave congratulations to the honorees for their unselfish and unwavering leadership and service to their community and kudos to NAACP President Daniella Pierre and the entire leadership and organizers of this event.
His message was entitled “Understanding your Voice as a Verb.”

Secure Our Future Campaign |
|
Dr. Gallon was excited to stand in advocacy, leadership, and support of teaching and learning and safety and security at the launch of the Secure Our Future Campaign held on October 6, 2022.
This campaign seeks a continuation of continued funding for teachers and safety in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Dr. Gallon enjoyed his time with community and municipal partners supporting the safety of the students at the Walk-Safe Event at Dr. Robert B. Ingram Elementary School.
The safety of students to and from school must remain a priority and concern for all.
|
|
At Dr. Gallon's district office, he saluted and gave gratitude to Matthew Tisdol for his representation of District 1 as his appointee to the Diversity, Equity, and Excellence Advisory Committee (DEEAC).
As the current Chair of DEEAC, he helps leads their efforts to make recommendations to the School Board and Superintendent with the goal of eliminating disparities and educational barriers while simultaneously continuing to progress toward racial parity and diversity.
Smart, passionate, professional, and prepared, Matt has proven himself as a strong advocate for our students and community.

It was great for Dr. Gallon to speak to District 1 residents regarding educational and school related issues at Councilwoman Katrina Wilson-Davis “Meet Me Mondays.”
It is always a privilege and honor for him to inform and engage the community in matters relating to the education of their students.
It was also an added bonus to thank and honor Councilwoman Wilson for her dedication and support of District 1 initiatives.

It was a very eventful evening at the District 1 Student of the Month held on October 19, 2022 at Madie Ives K-8 Preparatory Academy.
It is always a great opportunity to affirm and celebrate the achievement and success of their students in academics, attendance, attitude, and actions that reflect positively upon their schools, community, families, and themselves.

Zoe's Dolls Day of Service |
|
Dr. Gallon had a great morning at Nathan B. Young with Zoe and members of her service club as they continued to pay it forward and support schools in District 1 and through the community.
Zoe founded Zoe’s Dolls and continues to embody and model leadership, service, and empowerment for young girls.

Recognizing Rodney Baltimore |
|
At the School Board meeting held on October 19, 2022, Dr. Gallon gave huge congratulations to Rodney Baltimore, an outstanding community servant and person who provides a platform for voice for the community.
He was proud to recognize Rodney Baltimore, Executive Producer and Co-Host of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show for his unparalleled service to the community.

Live and in action cooking, collaborating, and talking education and the community, Dr. Gallon joined North Miami Councilwoman Mary C. Estimé-Irvin on her show Virtual Talks.
They discussed education in District 1, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and around the nation as he cooked up jerk chicken, spinach, onions and peppers, and jasmine rice.
He was thankful for the invitation and platform to speak to, educate, and inform their shared constituencies in the City of North Miami and beyond.

2022 Back to School Breakfast |
|
On the morning of October 22, 2022, Dr. Gallon delivered the Keynote Address at the 2022 Back to School Breakfast hosted by the City of North Miami, Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime and the Association of Haitian Educators.
It was a great opportunity for him to reconnect with educators, elected officials, and community stakeholders around supporting and celebrating the power and importance of education.

District 1 Town Hall Meeting |
|
Dr. Gallon had a successful evening at the District 1 Town Hall Meeting with parents, educators, and community stakeholders.
While there, he recognized schools whose academic grades improved in 2022. He also recognized schools whose enrollment increased this school year.
He gave congratulations to all of the principals and schools that were honored and a
special shout out to Golden Glades Elementary who had the highest enrollment increase of District 1—with an additional 66 students enrolling in the school for the 2022-2023 school year. In 2017 the school was on Targeted Status due to declining enrollment.
