Advisor of the Year

The Advisor of the Year award honors a DECA advisor who shows exceptional dedication and leadership in supporting students and the DECA program.


We encourage you to nominate a worthy colleague. Students may not nominate.

Who: DECA seniors, statewide

Award: $1,000 for students who plan to attend a post-secondary school

Based on: Demonstrate financial need, outstanding leadership and community service promoting quality of life

This program recognizes chapters for their work and leadership in empowering their members through unique projects, programs and events! 


Chapters can submit up to 4 categories. Winning chapters will be awarded on-stage at SCDC.

Washington Award for Vocational Excellence Scholarship


WAVE is a merit scholarship that honors the achievements of Washington’s top career and technical education students. There are up to 147 winners each year — three from each state legislative district.


The WAVE application portal is open and closes March 10, 2025.

Professional Sports Educational Days

Portland Trailblazers Pro Sports Day

  • DATE CHANGE! This event will now be on Monday, March 17.
  • Location: MODA Center in Portland


  • Ticket Price: $17 per person, including chaperones and advisors. Space is limited!
  • Bus Parking Fee: $60/bus - in/out $27
  • Car Paring Fee with in/out $27

Agenda:

  • Check-in 12:45pm
  • 1:00-2:00pm - Presentation + Q&A
  • 2:15-3:00pm - Students on the court with free throw/photos
  • 3:00-5:15pm - Free time with your chapter! Chapters must exit the MODA Center. We suggest an early dinner. The parking pass allows you in/out privileges of the parking garage.
  • 5:15pm - Allowed to re-enter MODA Center
  • 7:00pm - Basketball game against the Washington Wizards

Process Change for Renewal Applications

This is a courtesy announcement from the OSPI Professional Certification Department to inform educators that a change has been adopted by the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) that affects how educators need to apply to renew their certificates.



Note: This change only affects educators who hold full certificates that need to be renewed. This change does not apply to educators who hold limited certificates or non-renewing full certificates. If you have questions, please contact the Professional Certification Department before applying.

As your DECA chapter heads to Orlando for DECA ICDC, we’re here to make your experience as easy as possible! DECA is coordinating a package of attraction ticket offerings with many benefits.

ICDC and IB Testing

DECA is working with the International Baccalaureate Organization to arrange IB examination on April 25, 28, 29 and 30 at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando.


Once members have qualified for ICDC, interested finalists needing to take the IB examination in Orlando must have their school IB Coordinator fill out a request form (available in 2025). Please note that this process has a $52 USD fee per student. IBO will invoice schools. DECA will work to accommodate competition appointments to the best of its ability, given the nature of volunteer judges’ schedules.

It’s a call for us all to reach out to people and causes in need – and make a difference through acts of love, compassion, and goodwill.
