Teacher Tip:
October is widely recognized as the most challenging month for educators. According to Roxanna Elden, a former teacher and author, teachers begin the academic year with a renewed sense of possibility and energy after the summer break.
However, Ellen Moir, the founder of the New Teacher Center, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting new teachers, refers to the period between mid-October and Thanksgiving break as the "disillusionment phase" of the school year.
During this time, teachers experience a decline in morale as they come to the realization that things are not progressing as smoothly as they anticipated. Elden offers three pieces of advice in light of this situation.
- Keep perspective and know that you’re not alone.
- Take some time during the weekends to think strategically about one thing that can make a difference the following week.
- Make sure you’re getting enough sleep.
