Dear Reader,

Immigrants are essential to the fabric of Northern California. Their talents, cultures, and contributions to our economy are among what makes this region so extraordinary.

Catholic Charities honors the dignity, labor, and exemplary courage of immigrant farmworkers who make tremendous sacrifices to feed America.

Our community benefits from their efforts in countless ways, many of which often go completely unseen. Through the annual harvest season, a time when long work hours, blistering heat, and increasingly prevalent wildfire smoke impact farmworkers, we cannot overlook the contributions of those who give so much.

Catholic Charities, alongside our 167 sister agencies across the country often encounter our sisters and brothers at the most vulnerable times in their lives. They are seniors, veterans, natural disaster survivors, families at risk because of financial insecurities, and others who simply feel left behind.

Your ongoing support allows us to be a trusted helping hand they can count on.

Our team's approach to immigration is rooted in the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching. One tenant of the teaching states, “The economy must serve people, not the other way around. Work is more than a way to make a living; it is a form of continuing participation in God’s creation. If the dignity of work is to be protected, then the basic rights of workers must be respected.” Our country pauses to celebrate workers on Labor Day. It matters on this holiday...and all year long.

We believe all people have the right to find opportunities to fully participate in society. Through our Department of Justice-accredited Immigration Legal Services and comprehensive Financial Stability assistance, the barriers to opportunity that immigrants face can be lifted so they can thrive.

Whether they are farmworkers, aspiring students and young professionals, or loving parents building a life for their families, we have an opportunity to make Northern California a safe, welcoming place for those pursuing their legal path to residency and citizenship.

The demand for services has always been high, especially because people recognize and trust that Catholic Charities can be counted on to provide timely, effective, and confidential help. Due to the soaring cost of living and increasing global instability, demand has never been higher than it is now for immigrants from all walks of life just seeking to work and build their future.

The success of these services ultimately has a positive impact on all of us. Though views on how to respond to this matter may differ, we can all agree that upholding human rights must be at the center of any solution. As we provide this essential service to our immigrant community, we hope to continue the conversation with you and anyone seeking to make a difference in the lives of immigrants.

Thank you for making our work possible.
