President Thompson, UW mascots celebrate successful Vax Up! “70 for 70” campaign

University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson today announced that 70 students have been selected through a random drawing to receive a $7,000 scholarship under the System’s Vax Up! “70 for 70” campaign.

The 70 students attend the 11 UW System universities that participated in the campaign and that also achieved a 70 percent COVID-19 vaccination rate among students.

“We took up a challenge to educate and inform students as a part of a vaccination campaign to help keep our universities safe – and it has succeeded,” Thompson said. “What a thrill it is to be able to tell students they have won a $7,000 scholarship. I am so proud of our students, faculty, staff, and administrators who helped make this happen.”

Also today, the UW System released a short video on social media featuring Thompson celebrating the accomplishment with all university mascots. In the video, the “Board of Mascots” convenes to hear Thompson announce the success of the Vax Up! “70 for 70” campaign.

Under Construction

November 17, 2021, the D1 men’s bathroom adjacent to the Wyllie Market will close for several weeks as we work to replace piping and ductwork that is part of the Wyllie project. Please utilize the bathrooms on the east side of Wyllie by the Military & Veterans Success Center during this time.

November 22, 2021, the L1 men’s bathroom on the concourse next to the elevator will close for several weeks as we work to replace piping and ductwork that is part of the Wyllie project. Please utilize the bathrooms on the L1 level of the library.

The entrance to the Tallent Hall parking lot from the Wood Road traffic circle is now OPEN.

Asphalt is being laid down on east-bound Parkside Boulevard and on the north entry into the Tallent Hall parking lot. These areas will remain closed for the next 2-3 days while the new asphalt cures. The areas shown in red on the attached map of campus will remain closed to traffic for the next 2-3 days.

Landscape restoration efforts continue with this project so the fencing will remain in place until that work is completed.

There may be intermittent closures as final curbing is installed and pavement marking takes place. FM will continue to provide updates as this project progresses.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Office Closure

On Friday, November 26, the day after Thanksgiving, university offices will be closed to the public. Employees may choose to take a vacation day, work from home (if the job is conducive and with approval from the supervisor), or come into the office and work as normal.

For the week of December 28, 29, and 30, the same options apply (see above).

There are some exceptions to this notice for areas that support a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation such as the police department, heating plant, housing services, and other essential student-facing departments. Other less-than-essential student-facing departments should make sure students are able to reach someone in the department, if needed, via call forwarding or email.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your immediate supervisor or Human Resources.

Welcome to the 2021 United Way Campaign

When the UW-Parkside community comes together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. Whether it’s helping to graduate the largest class in UW-Parkside’s history or working on capital projects to improve our facilities, our employees consistently go above and beyond to meet and exceed our goals. We know that same dedication and generous spirit reaches beyond campus and that is why this year’s United Way campaign theme is “United in UW-Parkside Pride.” Your contributions provide resources that help local nonprofit organizations close equity gaps in health, financial well-being and education for members of our community.

We are proud that UW-Parkside’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion has helped launch the brand new Ranger Reader employee volunteer program in partnership with the United Way of Kenosha County. One child at a time, UW-Parkside reading tutors will help elementary students improve their reading scores so they can succeed in school and in the future.

We also take great pride in UW-Parkside employees’ history of generous financial giving through our United Way campaign. Now is a chance to invest in organizations that make our communities stronger, healthier and more equitable.
As a special incentive, donors will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win some great Parkside prizes, such as:
  • One month of reserved parking
  • Ranger Athletics swag and tickets
  • A $100 voucher good for a UW-Parkside Continuing Education course or workshop
  • UW-Parkside swag from the campus bookstore
  • A free mug of coffee compliments of Aladdin Campus Dining

Giving is easy. Now through November 23, you can use the secure online platform to donate through payroll deduction or make a one-time gift with a credit card. No matter how you choose to give, you can designate your gift to the United Way of Kenosha County or United Way of Racine County, or split your gift between the two agencies.
We know there are many ways that you personally and professionally give back to the community. Thank you for considering this additional opportunity to proudly participate in our United Way campaign.
