Thank you for leading the way! University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson announced a new incentive program that provides an opportunity for UW students vaccinated against COVID-19 to win a $7,000 scholarship.
Under the “70 for 70” campaign, vaccinated students who attend universities that achieve at least 70 percent vaccination rates will be eligible for one of 70 scholarships valued at $7,000 each. Students at all UW System universities except UW-Madison are eligible for the drawing.
THIS WEEK ONLY
Students will receive $50 in Campus Cash on their Ranger Card to be spent on campus (dining venues, bookstore, campus laundry rooms, copy machines) if they upload their vaccine verification to MyChart between Monday, October 11 and 5pm Friday, October 15.
We’re making progress, but we still have a way to go to reach our 70% vaccination rate goal, which will help us maintain a healthy and vibrant campus environment!

UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN SYSTEM CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY
On Oct. 12, 1971, legislation signed days earlier by Gov. Patrick J. Lucey took effect that merged the state’s two systems of public four-year higher education. The legislation created the University of Wisconsin System under a single Board of Regents.
“For 50 years, the University of Wisconsin System has been our state’s greatest asset other than its people. We have educated millions of our residents, improving the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities,” said System President Tommy Thompson, whose undergraduate and law degrees are from UW-Madison. “We are Wisconsin’s economic engine. A thriving UW System means a thriving Wisconsin, and I am incredibly proud of the employees past and present who dedicate their careers to education and embodying the Wisconsin Idea by finding solutions for our most pressing problems.”
To mark the date, the UW System released a short video celebrating the anniversary.

Phishing and Scam Text Messages
Recent scams have come to faculty, staff, and students through emails and text messages from people asking for full names, phone numbers, and gift cards or money. These scam attacks include messages that seemed to come from people familiar to your network such as faculty, staff, and students, including administrators. For example, recently someone used a current employee’s Name and Title to solicit another staff member for cash or transfer of funds.
Please be aware that UW-Parkside faculty and staff, including the chancellor, provost, vice-chancellors, or anyone else in our campus community will NEVER:
- Ask for money that doesn’t go through proper channels to provide accurate accountability.
- Contact you about a potential work opportunity that you have not applied for or expressed interest in from an unknown faculty or staff member whom you have not met previously.
- Ask you for your name to be sent in a text to them, any faculty and staff contacting you will already have your information such as your name.
Please be on the alert for anyone asking for money or gift cards through email, text, or social media accounts. Also, please be aware of false accounts on any platform. If someone asks for money posing as someone from UW-Parkside, please do not respond and let us know at servicedesk@uwp.edu so we can do our best to remediate these threats. If you receive an email that you don’t recognize the sender, please forward the email to servicedesk@uwp.edu, we will make sure is not a scam attempt.
