RANGER ATHLETICS READY FOR FALL 2021
By: Andrew Gavin, Athletics Director
|
Rangers!
On behalf of Parkside Athletics and everyone in the Sports & Activity Center, I hope this message finds you doing well and your semester is off to a great start! We’re certainly thrilled to be back, and we did not ease into the fall semester by hosting 17 games/competitions in a four-day stretch last week/weekend. After not having any competitions in the fall of 2020, the busyness brought welcomed sights and sounds from our student-athletes competing.
Our student-athletes are leading the way on campus with a high vaccination rate and compliance with regular testing, which we hope foster healthy, smooth, and successful seasons for all of our 15 Division II teams! Please check out ParksideRangers.com to stay up-to-date on the Rangers!

RangerVision 2020
Since launching at an interesting time in March 2020, we have worked really hard to successfully complete our RangerVision 2020 facility and fundraising campaign. While things have obviously not gone exactly to plan, we’re excited about the progress we have made and grateful for the support we have received from internal and external supporters. The teamwork and collaboration with the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the advancement office, John Bruch and Facilities Management, and University Police coupled with the support from donors and corporate partners have been instrumental to our success. I also want to thank our Associate AD for Facilities and Capital Projects Craig Becker ’09 for his leadership and hard work on these critical projects.
- De Simone Gymnasium Enhancement: De Simone Gym is still in the midst of a significant renovation that is transforming the space from a dated gymnasium into an arena set to provide an incredible atmosphere for volleyball, basketball, and wrestling competitions, campus and community events, and of course, commencement ceremonies! Brand-new bleachers and state-of-the-art video boards have already been installed, and this fall we will complete two VIP spectator areas – the Educators Credit Union Suite and The Bear Club. We are still fundraising hard, so if you would like to support this project, check out the Nexus Name-A-Seat Campaign
- Rick Kilps Center: In what to some is a bittersweet transformation, our pool has been converted into an incredible multi-purpose indoor turf center. This facility will be a gamechanger for our baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s soccer programs that are significantly impacted by the challenging Southeastern Wisconsin weather. Additionally, we are excited to use this facility to bring more visitors (especially young visitors) to campus! On Saturday, Sept. 25, we officially dedicate this space as the Rick Kilps Center in honor of Rick Kilps, Class of 1975. If you’d like to join us for this event, register today! REGISTER
- Mark Olsen Golf Center: The Mark Olsen Golf Center has been created on the second floor of the Sports & Activity Center, providing an effective training area for the Parkside men’s golf team. The space, which will be officially dedicated in honor of longtime former men’s golf head coach Mark Olsen, features two simulators, a putting green, and hitting bays.
- Academic Success Center: What some may not know is that the Sports & Activity Center is a campus building that includes multiple classrooms, professors and academic advisor offices, and lab space. Many students, especially those taking both undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Management departments, spend a large percentage of their academic time on campus in the SAC. With that said, the resources we provided our students for studying, working on computers, and meeting with professors and classmates were in dire need of an upgrade. On the second floor of the SAC, we were thrilled this summer to renovate an academic area to serve these needs!
Please stop by to see these improvements! Reach out if you’d like me or a member of our staff to show you around or to visit the Ranger Store!
