Learn To Homebrew Day


November 2nd is the 26th annual Learn To Homebrew Day! This year's official recipe is the Maltose Falcon 50th Anniversary IPA. Since the official recipe is a barley recipe, we want to suggest Bierly Brewing's Sierra Nevada Resilience IPA as a GF alternative. And to celebrate Learn To Homebrew Day, we are reducing the prices of all rice malt! That means the sale prices will become our new everyday prices.

 

$12 Five LB Bags of Rice Malt


We are extending our $12 five lb bags of Base Rice Malt #3 (experimental) that we offered in October for our 10 year business anniversary. A good choice for lighter ales and lagers, and would pair well with other base malts including 4L Biscuit Rice Malt, Pale Rice Malt, and Biscuit Rice Malt. Base Rice Malt #3 has a mild malty-sweet flavor with notes of light caramel, bread and honey.

 

Should You Adjust Your Mash pH?


Most homebrewers probably don't. So why does this come up? Ceremix Flex and Ondea Pro were not designed for brewing gluten-free beer. And the manufacturer does not have a pH recommendation specifically for brewing gluten-free beer. Pumpkin Spice beer falls under BJCP 30A Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer. One common misperception is that a Pumpkin Spice beer must contain pumpkin. The key word is "spice", referring to the spices that are typically paired with pumpkin. An example is our Pumpkin Spice Ale all-grain recipe kit.

Pumpkin beer falls under BJCP 30B Autumn Seasonal Beer. As compared to Pumpkin Spice beer that may or may not contain pumpkin, Pumpkin beer does contain pumpkin, as well as the associated spices.
