The Word This Sunday
September 27, 2020 - 17th Sunday after Pentecost
Jesus’ parable about two sons who don’t do what they say reveals surprises in the reign of God. In the reading from Ezekiel the people claim the ways of the Lord are unfair, while God offers repentance and new life. Paul urges us to look to Christ as a model of humility, putting the interests of others above our own. Nourished by the broken bread and shared cup, we offer our lives for the sake of our needy world.

The fairness of God’s way

Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love. (Ps. 25:6)

ELCA Stories of Faith in Action

Stories are the foundation of our faith. They teach us how to serve God with humility. They remind us of our identity as God’s beloved children. They bring us together and give us hope for the future. The ELCA's annual "Stories of Faith in Action" project illustrates how God is at work across the ELCA through your generosity. We will be highlighting a different story video each week!

“Many languages, one growing church”
A new community is burgeoning in Baltimore City, filled with refugees and immigrants from Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.
Fueled by a heat wave and unfavorable winds, devastating wildfires are raging across California, Oregon, Washington and other western states. At least 20 people have died, hundreds of thousands of people are under evacuation orders and more than 3.5 million acres have burned across the three states. Lutheran Disaster Response is engaging with at least three Lutheran social services agencies and five synods to assess the situation and determine the best ways to respond. We expect immediate needs may include food and other necessities, as well as emotional and spiritual care for those who have been traumatized.
Even as we face multiple crises, together we can reflect Christ’s light and hope to our neighbors in their time of need.

U.S. Wildfire Fire Relief
Our garden is doing so well this year thanks to all the "garden angels!" We have lots of produce that needs to be delivered to the Collierville Food Pantry each week during our growing season. Please choose a week you can help and sign up on SignupGenius. Contact Carol Rife with questions at 901-752-3957.
