Trinity Trumpeter | October 1, 2021

In the past, our Trunk-or-Treat event has been one of the highest attended outreach activities. We are hoping to bring it back better than ever! Our goal is to have 40 trunks decorated by families, Sunday school classes, local business, and school clubs, with a best-decorated trunk competition. None of this is possible without your help!

WHEN: Sunday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m.

WHERE: Trinity United Methodist Church (403 Racetrack Rd NW, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547)

  • You can register by yourself, as a family, small group, or any other way you'd like to. We ask that you decorate for families of all ages to come, so be creative, and you may win one of our top 3 prizes! We recommend having 800 - 1,000 pieces of candy to distribute.

  • If you can't make it to the event itself, we can use candy donations to be passed out at the event. We ask that all candy be individually wrapped and dropped off at the church office during business hours.

  • We'll have many jobs to do on the day of the event, so if you'd like to help with registration, passing out church info, be a candy running, help with parking/ crowds, photography or videography, set up or clean up, then volunteering is for you!

We can't wait to share this awesome opportunity with you! Register with MaKenzie Johnson by emailing or calling the church office (850-862-4169) to sign up today! This event needs you, and we thank you in advance for impacting our community through this outreach event.
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

This past month, we’ve focused on five vital signs of healthy congregations. The vital signs are vibrant worship, intentional faith development, transformational leadership, authentic community, and lasting impact. I want to highlight a few upcoming opportunities where we can grow in these vital signs.

On Saturday, October 9 at 9 AM in room 102, I am offering a workshop on centering prayer. Centering prayer is the practice of living out the words of Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God!” When I pray, I acknowledge that, at times I don’t know what to pray for. I know the people for whom I am to pray (including all of you), but I don’t always know what to ask for. This is okay because I trust in the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:26-27, “Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Centering prayer has helped me to be still before God. I want to teach you. This is a practice of intentional faith development.

On Sunday, October 27 at 5 PM, we are offering a trunk-n’-treat, where we will set up in our parking lot cars decorated for Halloween. We’ll invite children from our community and their families to join us for a fun evening of collecting candy. We want to do this as a gift to the people of our community. This helps us live out the words of Romans 12:13, “Extend hospitality to strangers.” This is a practice of authentic community.

On Sunday, November 7, we will recognize Veteran’s Day by celebrating the ministry of Bob Hope Village and by raising awareness of a new facility that they will build there for wounded veterans. A leader in our community, Tom Rice, will speak to us about this new facility. I would love for us to raise funds to support this ministry. We will have more information about this event later in the month. This will be a practice of having a lasting impact.

               in Christ,
Centering Prayer is the practice of sitting silently with God while consenting to God’s presence and action in our lives. If you feel the desire to grow closer to God if you want to grow in your prayer life, and if you want to experience God’s peace that passes understanding even during the storms of life? Then, you may want to try centering prayer.

If you are interested in learning about Centering Prayer, I invite you to join us in room C102 at 9:00 a.m. on October 9 for an introductory workshop. You will learn the basics of centering prayer, and we will practice this prayer together. Our goal is for all of us to grow in the discipline of prayer.

Please email or call the church office at 850-862-4169 if you would like to participate.
