DETAILS FOR THE DAY

When You Arrive

First Serve Day of Service begins at 8 am with donuts and coffee at 915 North Main Community Connection Center. Here's a parking map to help you, and there will have parking attendants directing traffic as well.

After parking, please join us on the front lawn of 915 North Main! Volunteers and Project Leaders can pick up their t-shirts, and there will also be a tent where you can drop off any items you've brought to add to our collection efforts. (See the list of items below.)

An inspiring Sending Service will begin at 8:30 am, featuring interfaith components, music by the First Serve Choir, and a message from our guest speaker, Dr. Cristina González Alcalá.

Right after worship, volunteers will depart for their project sites! Half-day projects will conclude at lunchtime.

We can't wait to spend the day building relationships in North Hill with you!

Day of Service Lunch

Lunch will be served on the front lawn of 915 North Main Community Connection Center from 12:30 - 1:30 pm. We will move it indoors in case of rain. The menu includes:

  • Grilled hotdogs
  • Turkey wraps
  • Veggie wraps
  • Chips
  • Cookies
  • Water

We will also be hosting a Culinary Taste of North Hill featuring Latin American cuisine! Six chefs are each preparing a favorite family recipe including samples of Lomo Saltado, Chancho con Yuca, Pupusas, Salsa & Chips, and Churros.

Our chefs are:

  • Susana Iriarte • Peru
  • Daiana Ruiz • Nicaragua
  • Maria Quinteros & Raul Jovel • El Salvador
  • Sofia Montes • Mexico
  • Lesbia Rebeca Aviles • Nicaragua

Please note: We will bring lunch to volunteers working on full-day projects.

CRAM THE CARTS

While it's true that it doesn't seem like much, when 500 people bring an item or two from the list below to the Day of Service, we can make a meaningful contribution to the food pantries, clothing rooms, and schools of North Hill.

Here's what we would love to have:

  • New or gently used men's clothing--especially pants--in sizes small & medium
  • New or gently used clothing for school-age kids (sizes 6-16)
  • New or gently used sweatshirts & hoodies in sizes small & medium (no bad language or graphics)
  • New packs of socks & underwear for all ages, sizes and gender
  • VO5 shampoo & conditioner
  • Body lotion (any brand)
  • Boxes of tissues
  • Glue sticks
  • #2 pencils

On the Day of Service, we will have a designated tent staffed with volunteers ready to accept your contributions. You can drop your items off when you arrive!
