Meet Your LWLC Co-Chairs!

We are excited to introduce you to the dedicated co-chairs leading Live Well Lake County this year. Each brings a unique passion, experience and a little bit of fun to their leadership. Get to know them a little better below!

Angela Baran

Senior Program Officer, Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County

Involved with Live Well Lake County Network since 2016

If you could instantly master any hobby or skill, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to play the fiddle. I’ve never tried, so who knows — maybe I’m a hidden savant! I love music with a good fiddle part and think it would be so cool to play "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Go-to comfort snack or drink during a busy workday:

Anything crunchy or sweet!

Fictional world you'd most want to live in for a week:

Star Trek — even though I’m not a Trekkie, I admire how the Star Trek universe envisions a peaceful Earth where humanity has figured out how to live harmoniously. That really stuck with me.

Maggie Morales

Executive Director, The Lake County Community Foundation

Involved with the Live Well Lake County Network since 2012

If you could instantly master any hobby or skill, what would it be and why?

Ski jumping! There’s something exhilarating about flying through the air on skis — hopefully without breaking my neck!

Go-to comfort snack or drink during a busy workday:

Coffee is a must! Popcorn is my favorite snack.

Fictional world you'd most want to live in for a week:

The Marvel Universe. While I don’t often read or watch fiction, my husband’s love for Marvel has gotten me into the shows and movies — it would definitely make for an adventurous week!

Jon Ashworth

Community Systems Development Manager, Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center

Involved with Live Well Lake County Network since 2011

If you could instantly master any hobby or skill, what would it be and why?

Sinking 50-foot basketball shots every time! My son would never win another game of HORSE.

Go-to comfort snack or drink during a busy workday:

Chobani Greek Yogurt and Belvita crackers — and fresh fruit whenever possible.

Fictional world you'd most want to live in for a week:

A mash-up world as Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Avengers) — a week full of adventure and invention!

Manny Hernandez

Director of Operations, Family First Center of Lake County

Involved with Live Well Lake County Network since 2016

If you could instantly master any hobby or skill, what would it be and why?

Becoming an exceptional musician, specifically a skilled guitarist. Music has a way of connecting people and expressing emotions that words sometimes can't.

Go-to comfort snack or drink during a busy workday:

Lemongrass tea — it transports me back to the joyful moments of my childhood.

Fictional world you'd most want to live in for a week:

Pandora from Avatar. The breathtaking landscapes, bioluminescent forests, and the opportunity to connect with the Na'vi culture would be unforgettable.

MAPP 2.0 Updates

The LWLC Leadership team is hard at work determining what worked well in the last community health improvement cycle and what can be better. The CHIP is a long-term plan that allows us to see what is working and make changes based on what we learn. Right now, we are focused on clarifying the current CHIP goals, so they reflect the work that is happening across action teams and so that we have the resources needed to make an impact.

The LWLC Steering Committee kicks off on June 4th! We will be meeting monthly to plan for the community health assessments and improvement plan. Thank you to all who are a part of the committee.

The Community Partner Assessment (CPA) survey was introduced at the April Quarterly Meeting. This survey will identify strengths within the community and help us figure out how to work together for the greatest impact. We are asking each organization to complete ONE survey. This survey is only for organizations and not for individuals. The survey will be sent by email in early May, so keep an eye on your inbox!

If you have questions or need help completing the survey, please email Christina Hayes at chayes2@lakecountyil.gov

Network Resources

The PLE Work Group is working on a number of one-pagers to support Network member engagement. This month's resource provides information about how to effectively use ChatGPT. Watch for English and Spanish versions of one-pagers like this one on the Live Well Lake County website!

Upcoming Meetings

Peers with Lived Expertise (PLE)

Peers with Lived Expertise (PLE) weekly meeting is held every Thursday from 6:00 pm -7:00 pm. These meetings are held via Google Meets.
