Storytelling Working Group Updates

 

The Storytelling Working Group is partnering with the Housing, Education and Access to Care Action Teams to create visual content, including reels and videos, that showcases each group's focus and the work they're doing.


They have kicked things off with the Housing Action Team and are on track to have their first visual ready before July 2026. Stay tuned! Questions or ideas? Contact Shonta or Idriss.


 

Garden of Greens Harvesting Workshop



Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 25 and join members of the PLE Working Group, Nature's Emporium and IADMT for a harvesting workshop at the Garden of Greens in Waukegan. This program is generously supported through a grant from Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County. Additional details can be found below. Contact Bruce Wright or Frank Pettis with questions.

Housing Action Team Update


Affordable Housing Development – Midlothian Manor

Thank you to everyone who provided a public comment or letter of support for the affordable housing development in unincorporated Lake Zurich, Midlothian Manor! The Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved the project.


It now needs to pass the Lake County Board’s Planning, Building, Zoning and Environment Committee meeting on 7/29 at 10:30 a.m. and the Lake County Board on 8/11 at 9:00 a.m. These next meetings have virtual and in-person options, so if you are able to provide public comment in support of this project, please contact Liz Nelson at lnelson@connect2home.org or 847-840-3422.

Training Opportunities

Training Opportunities from the Illinois Department of Human Rights

The Illinois Department of Human Rights Institute for Training and Development offers a variety of trainings related to the Illinois Human Rights Act on a monthly basis.


Next month they are hosting a "Basic Fair Housing Training" webinar on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

A Housing Policy Workshop

** This event is geared toward housing programs, 
property managers and landlords. **

Location: Lake County Center for Independent Living

Panelists: Lake County Community Development, Lake County Center for Independent Living and Prairie State Legal Services

 

An update on the Americans with Disability Act, Fair Housing and Tenant Rights Policies will be shared along with grant opportunities for accessibility building improvements. Lunch is generously provided by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Live Well Lake County (LWLC) Network Quarterly Meeting

Our next quarterly Network meeting is scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026 from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. During that time, we will review and analyze Community Health Assessment data to inform our upcoming health issue prioritization.

  • October 9, 2026 from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Housing Action Team meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
