Reminiscing

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me lie down in green pastures:

he leadeth me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:1-2

GOOD DAY PALM COAST!!!!!!!!! This time of year I kind of reminisce about my younger years with my family. Mom,dad, aunt and uncle, we would take a ride up to the coal mines in Pennsylvania, around Hazleton. We would head up that way for that’s where my mom and uncle grew up.

For preparing to go up my aunt always would prepare a lunch for us it was fit for a king.

As we were heading towards the mountains. We would just observe the scenery of the mountains and all the trees turning colors. Some green, yellow, brown and red. How majestic it all looked together.

That’s when the 23rd Psalm comes to mind. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures; he leadth beside the still waters.

As we park along the roadside at a viewing point. In a car we all squeeze in. We look like the circus when all of the people come popping out. Then we would just stand there and admire the world God has made for us to enjoy. Little place of heaven with the trees changing. Waterfalls and the running brooks. That just brought peace to all of us. “He restoreth my soul; he leadth me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.”

As we sat at a picnic table or most of the time we used the hood of the car. We felt the closeness of family. As family members become deceased we don’t feel that closeness anymore. It was a time before cell phones,IPads and any other electronic devices. A table cloth on the hood of the car. Unpacking our lunch. Enjoying our meal and listening to the stories from my mom and my uncle about growing up in the mountains. It restored all our souls and brought up a peace around us. Taking in what God has blessed us with thank you Lord.

As we packed up the car and piled in heading out to the slate mines to pickup some for my aunt to do her new walk way. “ Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”

I can still feel this today just doing these little things as a family have followed me all of my days. As “ I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

As God continues to bless me. He is also blessing you.

Amen,

Pastor Bill
