Rev. James, Sr. sermon is entitled “Teach Me” based on Joshua 7:1-5 (MSG).

Are you ready for some football? Are you ready for Back to School?

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying:

"Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I; send me!"

– Isaiah 6:8

Yes, this coming Sunday is football Sunday as well as the kickoff of the back-to-school season, and Linda and I are ready.

Author James Moore is ready for this football season. Here's his story.

Imagine this. You go to a football game. Fifty players huddle with their coaches. The referee blows his whistle to start the game and a crazy thing happens. The 50 players stand on the sideline and the three coaches run out on to the field to play the game. Some of the players shout encouragement, "Go get 'em, Coach!" and "You can do it!" But none of the players go on to the playing field. They expect the coaches to do it all.

If you saw that at a football game, you would think, "This is most the bizarre thing I have ever seen!" And yet, that's the way some people relate to the church. They think the ministers and staff are supposed to do it all, while the other church members stand by and watch.

That is certainly not the biblical example. Jesus did not call a single priest, preacher, or rabbi to be one of his disciples. He called lay people to help him do his work. He is calling you right now. He has a special job that only you can do. When God searches for a believer to advance His Kingdom, does He call your name? And can you say with Isaiah, "Here am I, Lord; send me?"

Are you ready to respond to the call of God? It's food for thought to feast on this football season and beyond. Please wear your favorite jersey, invite your friends, and come expecting a great time at Palm Coast United Methodist Church for both worship services: 8:30 & 10:30 a.m. The sermon is entitled, "Teach Me" based on the book of Joshua from Chapter 7.

See You All On Back to School/Football Sunday,

Dr. Kevin M. James, Sr.
