It’s Summer of Safety time again — join PGE at community events where they can make it fun for your kids to learn how to use electricity safely and wisely. See schedule of local fairs and festivals where you can find PGE this summer at www.PortlandGeneral.com/summerofsafety.

Be Prepared When Camping: Don’t forget to tuck a well-stocked first-aid kit in with your camping gear this summer. Check out this great list of what to include from skyaboveus.com.

Are the days too hot? Are your workouts causing a sweat? Peppermint may be your best friend. Make sure to have a carrier oil on hand if you become too cool.

Using a complex password is a minimum these days but so is not repeated use and changing it periodically. To make these easier look into a password manager or an identity management solution

TAILS & TRAILS: HIKING THE COAST WITH A DOG

Oregon Coast dogs are the most spoiled in America. And why wouldn’t they be? Look at the variety places they get to choose from on any given day, rain or shine.
It’s a place that gives dogs what they need. Beaches are great for dragging around huge sticks; rivers are nice for cooling off; the porch at the Rogue Brewery is a perfect place to be admired and petted by passersby.
For my enthusiastic black Labrador, Lilo, a hiking trail is the is the best place to spend any Oregon Coast day. Tuesday marks the start of my “weekend” and for Lilo, Tuesdays have become a sacred day; it’s a day for trails.

Try Local First
On the Verge of Extinction….
I heard on TV recently, that scientists are now able to save endangered species by cloning their DNA. I wish they could have cloned Party City in order to save it. I was so sad when I drove my car to shop local for my Summer BBQ supplies and disappointingly found Party City was closed for business. I love buying decor and supplies. I love seeing them in person and going up and down the aisles looking. It inspires me for my next party.
While the internet is wonderful, it has caused the face of our community to change and, in my opinion, sometimes not for the better.  If we always order online, then when we want those decorations today the store is gone due to lack of business. Tomorrow that space might be a shoe store, the printing shop, etc. but there is no guarantee of that happening either.
So Shop Local!! It does make a difference – I am sure the employees that worked at Party City would agree! We need more local retail DNA!
