Spend an evening with us on B Street on Sept. 10 and 17, where live music, great food and family-friendly activities bring the block to life! Join the fun between 1st and 3rd avenues from 6–8 p.m., featuring the following musical performances:

Immigration Forum & Community Resource Fair with Assemblymember Diane Papan and Senator Josh Becker

Join Assemblymember Diane Papan and Senator Josh Becker for their Immigration Forum & Community Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon.

As families prepare for the new school year, this event provides an opportunity to learn about recent immigration policy changes and their impact on Medi-Cal, SNAP and other services.

After the Immigration Forum, attendees will be invited to participate in a Community Resource Fair and Backpack Giveaway for students and families onsite!

RSVP required. Location to be sent out 24 hours before event.

City Accepting Applications for New Historic Resources Commission

The City is seeking five adult members and two Youth Commissioners, ages 13–17, who live or study in San Mateo, to serve on the new Historic Resources Commission. If you have an interest in local history, architecture or historic preservation, this is a chance to help shape the City’s future while conserving its past.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience or an interest in history, architecture, planning, engineering, building rehabilitation, construction management or related fields.

Applications are due Wednesday, September 16, at 5:00 p.m.

Ballot Measure Arguments Due Aug. 11, 2026

Voters in all five districts will consider these two ballot measures this election:

• ¼-Cent Transactions and Use Sales Tax Measure
• Charter Amendments Measure

The deadline to submit primary arguments for or against City of San Mateo ballot measures in the Nov. 3, 2026, General Municipal Election is quickly approaching. Primary arguments supporting or opposing a measure are due at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Rebuttal arguments responding to those primary arguments are due at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18.



Those interested in submitting an argument should review the City’s requirements, forms and filing instructions in advance to ensure everything is submitted on time.

Join Us for Central Bark on Sunday, Aug. 16!

Grab your leash and join the San Mateo Police Activities League (PAL) and San Mateo Parks & Recreation for the third annual Central Bark on Sunday, Aug. 16, from noon to 3 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field in Central Park!

This free, family-friendly community event celebrates our four-legged friends with dog contests, demonstrations, pet-friendly vendors, activities, community resources and plenty of fun for the whole family.

Whether you bring your pup or simply enjoy spending time with fellow animal lovers, Central Bark is a great way to connect with the community while supporting PAL's youth programs.

Fall registration opens next week — Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. for City of San Mateo residents and Thursday, Aug. 13, at 9 a.m. for non-residents.

Explore thrilling opportunities that will keep the entire family involved as everyone heads back to school. There are countless options available, from martial arts and dynamic dance classes like K-pop, to music lessons and much more. Looking for after-school care and school break camps? We have those too!

Water Safety Reminders With City of San Mateo’s Harbor Patrol

Plan on enjoying the water this summer? Harbor Patrol would like to share a few reminders for keeping our waterways safe.

• Always operate your vessel at a safe and responsible speed, and abide by the speed limits of each zone.
• Be aware of designated kayaking and paddleboarding areas. Kayakers and paddleboarders should avoid entering Zone A. Idling and loitering in Zone A is prohibited.
• Maintain at least 50 feet of distance from residential shorelines and private docks. Boating that creates large wakes is prohibited.
• Only one rider is permitted at a time for all towed water activities, including tubing, wakeboarding and water skiing.
• If you plan on operating a vessel after sunset, the speed is restricted to 10 mph, except in areas where lower speed limits are posted and required.

And remember, all fireworks are prohibited in San Mateo. Leave the fireworks displays to approved public events and help keep our community safe!

Library Updates

Celebrate Main Library's 20th Anniversary and Cafe Grand Opening! 

Celebrate a major milestone with us on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Main Library marks its 20th anniversary with a day of music, dance and community festivities.

The fun will begin with the grand opening of PLUR Coffee’s newest location at 11 a.m. on the third floor.

The anniversary program kicks off at 12:15 p.m. in the lobby with a dynamic performance by San Mateo Buddhist Temple Taiko, followed by a rich lineup of cultural performances:

• Ukulele Fun Jam with Charlie Chin and Victor Labrador

• Grupo Folklórico de SMHS dance performance

• Jazz and swing piano recital by local student Aarohi Kher

• Persian musical performance by Amir Etemadzadeh and Mint Tea Productions

Light refreshments will be served. All community members are welcome—come celebrate with us!
