It has not been all that long since Christmas, and so it might seem odd to hear that famous reading about people in darkness seeing the light again. But what is happening in the readings this weekend is that the birth of Christ is being linked to his ministry, to the call of the disciples and ultimately to his sacrifice on the cross. The kingdom is being proclaimed there, just as Isaiah foretold, and it is from the people of the Galilee that Jesus finds his closest followers. Once again God surprises us, for Christ’s choices are not society’s choices. When he comes to Jerusalem, and especially during the passion, Peter’s home in the Galilee will be his undoing in the high priest’s courtyard.
Saint Paul, for his part, calls on everyone to forget the little stuff and focus only on the central truth, that all who are baptized belong to Jesus alone. This simple message can often be a hard one to learn, even in our parish life, where we might be tempted to try and claim some special allegiance because of what group we belong to or what ministry we perform. In the end, we are all Christ’s and Christ is God’s. Liturgy.com

Year-End Giving
This season of giving is a perfect time to express your gratitude for the blessings in your life by making a year-end gift to our parish. As you plan your charitable contributions for 2025, please know that we gratefully accept gifts of cash and appreciated assets, such as stocks or bonds, and grants to our parish from donor-advised funds.
You can make a gift to our parish using your IRA
As Christian stewards, we are called to help make our Church a strong community of faith and a beacon of service to others. This includes supporting the financial needs of today while ensuring a stable foundation for the future. One way to contribute is through your IRA. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) of up to $108,000 directly from your IRA to your parish. This gift will not be taxable income and can satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD). Looking ahead, you might also consider naming our parish as a beneficiary of your IRA. Click here for more details, consult your financial advisor or contact Mary Lou Ozimek at 216-696-6525 x4070.
