In the current state of the music industry, the middlemen take an unfair percentage of the artists’ proceeds. Blockchain can help correct this imbalance by connecting artists directly to their audience without a need for middlemen via crypto. Find out how!
Guild has unveiled a trio of new acoustic guitars for 2021: the BT-240E, F-240E, and the BT-258E. Each of the acoustics – a pair of baritones (an 8-string and a 6-string) and a regular 6-string among them – features a Fishman pickup system and a Jumbo body shape.
There’s a large number of emerging young players with small hands; likewise, there is a greater number of female bassists, a welcome – and long overdue – development in our world; there’s a growing concern about the world’s wood stocks; and there seems to be a growing reluctance among airline check-in staff to allow full-sized bass guitars on planes as carry-on luggage.
It’s not surprising to learn that at the heart of Kimo’s love of ukulele is kanikapila— friendly, casual gatherings/jam sessions where musicians play and sing informally just for fun; a Hawaiian tradition that has by now also been adopted by uke players wherever you find them.

I remember after the first show that I ever did with Frank, I met him in the restaurant of the hotel in the morning, having breakfast, and I said, So, how was I? He said, You know, Steve, I think you're a really good musician but your tone sounds like an electric ham sandwich. And I said, Well why...
The first blossoming of a hard-rock scene occurred in the late 1950s and early ’60s in Texas, Southern California, and, especially, the Pacific Northwest, where garage-rock bands – including the prototypical hard-rock act, the Kingsmen – churned out three-chord tunes like “Louie Louie.” In this primitive state of its evolution, hard rock was a germ looking for a healthy host to help it thrive. It found several among the bands who arrived in the second wave of the British Invasion. The Kinks, the Who, the Rolling Stones, and the Yardbirds were among the main acts who cranked up their amps or plugged into a distortion box to give their guitars a harder edge.
Early overdrives were designed for guitarists and were essentially boost pedals intended to push the first valves in an amplifier into distorting more. These also worked brilliantly as a standalone effect, pushing up the midrange and adding grit to a bass sound. Modern bass-specific overdrives help to maintain low-end.
To hear Nir Felder, you wouldn’t imagine the first players to excite him were Clapton, Hendrix, and Page. His minimal string bending and long, high-speed, harmonically complex lines make it hard to trace his roots to that rock triumvirate. His résumé includes stints with Erykah Badu, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jack DeJohnette, Brad Mehldau, Meshell Ndegeocello and Chaka Khan. The tracks he recently recorded recalls more of Pat Metheny than Pat Hare, but Felder’s tone and attack remain his own.
