ACTION NEEDED: Submit Your Pre-Event Medical Questionnaire
In an effort to provide the best medical care during your race experience, the B.A.A. asks you to please complete the following RaceSafe form. The B.A.A. Medical Team utilizes RaceSafe, an encrypted health and safety app, to coordinate medical care for any runners needing assistance.
We request that you please securely share your health information in an effort to assist us in case of emergency. Participation is voluntary, but this information may be lifesaving in a medical emergency.
Having access to information regarding your individual health history (e.g. allergies, recent medications) will allow our medical team to better care for you in the event that you require attention during or after the race. All information is kept confidential in compliance with the Protected Health Information/HIPAA Privacy Rules.
Please complete this brief questionnaire relating to your medical history and previous experiences during road races or training at your earliest convenience. Thank you, and best of luck in training!

Be Part of The 2023 Boston Marathon Medical Study
The B.A.A. Medical Team is proud to announce its sponsorship of a medical study to occur at the 2023 Boston Marathon on heart and step rate synchronization and its impact on health and performance. The study will be conducted by sports scientists from Stanford and Brigham Young University.*
Enrollment in the study is limited to 120 participants between the ages of 18 and 34. Participants will be chosen across a balance of qualifying times and genders. If you participate in the study, you will take part in novel research to assess whether you naturally step in sync with your heart and the potential impact on your health and performance. Study results will be available to all participants, and participants who complete the study will be permitted to keep the Counterspace sensor (a step-timing guidance system) used to collect data during the study as a thank-you for your participation. Participants may alternatively return the sensor to receive a $50.00 stipend.
To learn more about specifics of the study and to apply, click the link below.

*The Boston Athletic Association (the “B.A.A.”) will not be involved in conducting the Research Study and will not receive or relay any data between or among study participants and the persons who conduct it. By applying to the Research Study using the link above, you acknowledge and agree that the conduct of the Research Study, and any research, results and other information obtained or produced in connection therewith, is independent from the B.A.A., and that the B.A.A. does not endorse or accept any responsibility for the conduct of the Research Study or any information obtained or produced in connection therewith. Your participation in the Research Study will be subject to terms and conditions of the persons conducting the Research Study.

Training Tip from B.A.A. Running Club Coach Scott Cody
We are now entering the tapering phase of your preparation for April 17th. This is a vital part of your training. You have put in the work. It is time to allow your body (and mind) to reap the benefits of all of your hard work. A lot of runners struggle with the idea of backing off, because they worry about losing fitness. However, it is very important that you embrace this time. This is when our body repairs all of the damage you have done to your muscles and allows for your glycogen stores to return to optimal levels. What minimal fitness you might lose, is far outweighed by the physiological gains you will make. This is the time, where you focus on the process and give yourself credit for the work you have put in. By backing off, you get the most out of your efforts. Eat well, sleep well and train smart. If you have put in the work, then you know you will be ready. Let’s go!
