In celebration of Black History Month, we’re sharing stories and iconic moments of Black individuals and organizations in Boston Marathon history. Highlighted most recently were Marilyn Bevans and the Boston Running Collaborative.
Marilyn Bevans became the first Black American woman to run a sub three-hour marathon at the 1975 Boston Marathon, and the Boston Running Collaborative is an organization comprised of groups such as Black Girls Run, Black Men Run, TrailblazHers, and PIONEERS Run Crew that are committed to building a diverse Boston running community, improving health and wellness, and expanding access to running and walking in Boston with a focus on communities of color.
We applaud these groups and individuals for diversifying the sport of running!
