Presbytery Reminders

Important Information For The Upcoming 155th Stated Presbytery Meeting – The Presbytery of Arkansas will gather on the campus of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville on March 1-2, 2024.

While we are making plans for an electronic presence at the meeting, this will be one that you will want to attend in person if possible. We will be joined by youth from several of our congregations at our Youth at Presbytery event (register here). Friday evening’s worship service will be held in the beautiful Munger-Wilson chapel. Representatives from Ministry Architects will present results of their recent assessment work. Ferncliff, Vera Lloyd, and the Thriving in Rural Ministry Program will all present opportunities for us to join them in making a tremendous impact on their future ministries. Read more...

Clergy Compensation Form—It is the time of year when congregations vote on changes to the terms of calls of their pastors. Please remember that MWS members are now mandated by the Book of Order to have 12 weeks of paid family medical leave. The form to report compensation can be found here, 2024 Compensation Report. All MWS and CREs must fill out the form even if there are no changes to the terms of call.

Opportunities

Youth @ Presbytery, March 1-2 - The Presbytery of Arkansas meets three times a year. The March/February meeting provides space for the youth of the Presbytery to connect and discuss the docket. The youth have voice on the floor and are allowed to give advisory votes. This meeting will take place at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.

Register here by February 23rd.

Presbytery-wide Confirmation Retreat, March 8-10, 2024 @ Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center -

Are you a small church who has a few youth who haven't been through Confirmation? Did COVID or a staff transition interrupt your Confirmation rotation? Do you have a few older youth who would like to go through the Confirmation process? Well, you are in luck!

In order to better support our congregations, the Presbytery of Arkansas is offering a Confirmation opportunity for youth grades 7-12 for churches throughout our Presbytery. This Confirmation model is a Retreat weekend + some digital classes after the Retreat to round out Confirmation instruction; youth will then be confirmed in their own congregations. We will work with the individual churches in order to make sure the youth have mentors as they move through the process.

We will begin the retreat around 7 pm on March 8th and end by 10 am on March 10th, Register here by March 1st. Due to the generosity of our ministry partners at Ferncliff, this event is free! Questions? Contact Sarah Leer, Transitional Youth and Young Adult Developer

FernClipse: Intergenerational Solar Eclipse Event - On Saturday April 6th-Tuesday April 9th, Ferncliff and the Office of Christian Formation of the Presbyterian Mission Agency are partnering to offer a 4 day, 3 night intergenerational Creation Care event culminating with the total solar eclipse reaching Little Rock on April 8th, 2024. This event invites all people (individuals, families, groups) that would like to attend an intergenerational Christian Creation Care event centered on and culminating with the Total Solar Eclipse. This event offers a specific invitation to PC(USA) members, families, youth groups, churches and congregations. Mission of The Church Grants - The deadline for this year's first round of MOC grants are due by Monday, April 15. Dream big about the mission work your church/Presbyterian organization might undertake this year and let the MOC help you realize your dream by awarding you a grant.

Around The Presbytery

Arkansas Presbytery Stories: Robert Lowry -

"Youth ministry in the Presbytery of Arkansas started having an impact on my life when I was in the youth group (then called Venture) at Second Pres in Little Rock and it still impacts me today. I've never been very comfortable in my own skin and one of the few places that has not really mattered is in presbytery youth events. When I was an awkward teenager and now that I am an awkward adult, read more...
