Dear Friends in Christ,
I am pleased to offer a little fall gift to you and your family. It's a wonderful, concise book on the Eucharist by Bishop Robert Barron called "This is My Body: A Call to Eucharistic Revival." The book begins with a brief introduction entitled "Source and Summit." Interestingly, this is the theme of our monthly family meal and adoration on the first Wednesday of each month at Saint Patrick: Source + Summit. It's really no coincidence because the Eucharist truly is the source and summit of our faith; it is the mountain-top experience of being Catholic!
Bishop Barron then writes three distinct chapters on what the Eucharist is. First, it is a sacred meal that nourishes, heals, transforms, and builds us into the Body of Christ.
Second, the Eucharist is a sacrifice that reconciles us with God the Father, saves us from our sins, and offers us eternal life. Jesus gave his life in sacrifice as a model for us to follow. And the Eucharist is the constant reminder of his sacrifice and the call to live that reality in our lives. Finally, Bishop Barron says that the Eucharist is real; it is the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ. He uses the Southern writer Flannery O'Connor's famous saying that if the Eucharist is only a symbol or representation of Christ, then "to Hell with it!" That's a bold saying but also very true. If we don't take Jesus at his word that the Eucharist IS his flesh and blood, then what's the point, huh? There's no point at all if it's just a symbol. Instead, it's just a lie. But thankfully, God does not lie! God is love and truth.
I hope this book will be an inspiration to you and your family. May it truly bring about a renewal in Eucharistic belief, understanding, and, most importantly, revival!
Blessings for the week ahead!
Fr. David Mulholland
Pastor

Dear Parishioners,
On Saturday, September 23, the Archdiocese will announce the DRAFT Parish Family Groupings for the entire Archdiocese of Seattle. On that day, we will send out a special email to all parishioners and make announcements at Mass concerning the family groupings for the parishes of Tacoma. Most importantly, it will be the first chance for all people to begin to think and pray about the proposed family groupings, especially for Saint Patrick and Holy Cross. And it will kick off the opportunity for you to give your INPUT on the proposals. Most importantly, the Archdiocese wants to know what you think is good about the proposals and why, and what you think is challenging about the proposals and why.
There will be two ways to give your input. The most effective way is to attend one of four Input Sessions at our parishes.

These sessions will allow you to voice your input and give your opinions about the family groupings. It will also allow everyone to hear each other's opinions, which will be good for all. You can also send your written ideas to a special email that we will use to gather input and send to the Archdiocese: partners@saintpats.org
ALL of your opinions and ideas are important and will be sent to the Archdiocese for consideration for the final Family Groupings to be announced in January 2024.
Thank you!
Fr. David

National Migration Week begins September 18 and runs through September 24, the World Day for Migrants and Refugees. Too often, migration is forced, particularly in cases where individuals are fleeing war or conflict. Consequently, this year's theme for National Migration Week shines a light on the ideal, where all are "Free to choose whether to migrate or to stay."
Pope Francis speaks to this theme in his 2023 World Day for Migrants and Refugees address, which marks the 109th celebration of this date. Visit the USCCB's Justice for Immigrants (JFI) website to access a toolkit for learning, reflecting, and acting on National Migration Week. Supporting immigrants and refugees is a legislative priority of the WSCC bishops.

NEW Pushpay Giving Online
Thank you for your consistent giving to our parish. We are grateful for your continued generosity and are excited to announce a new way to give. We value our parish community and want to ensure everyone knows about our new giving platform.
Along with most of the parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle, we are moving away from Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) Online Giving and EFT services. The Archdiocese has spent over two years reviewing giving platforms and has chosen to contract with Pushpay. We strive to be good stewards of your financial gifts and believe the significantly lower processing fees offered through Pushpay will allow your gift of treasure to support our parishes' mission further. As always, security is a top priority.
We aim to complete this transition process to Pushpay by November 1, so we need your help moving your current OSV Online Giving and EFT gifts.
Online Giving (credit cards or bank account)
If you currently donate online (via OSV), please follow the instructions below to set up your recurring gift through Pushpay and cancel your donation through OSV.
EFT (bank account only)
If you currently donate through EFT (via the Parish Office), please follow the instructions below to set up your recurring gift through Pushpay. Then, email Michelle Carpenter to stop your EFT donations.

We're almost there!
Your gift helps us do much for our parish and the wider Catholic community by supporting outreach ministries, education, faith formation, and funding shared services that directly support our parishes.
We rely on these centralized services, like human resources, parish financial services, liturgy guidance, communications, and more, so we can continue to focus on our pastoral work here at the parish.
Please look at the annual report to learn about all ministries in the Archdiocese of Seattle.
If you have already donated— thank you. Please inquire with your employer about a matching gift to double or triple your donation!
If you haven't, click the DONATE button above to make your pledge. It is safe, secure, and convenient. There are several options: Ongoing Recurring Gifts, Monthly Pledge Gifts, One-Time Gifts, Stock, DAF, or IRA Gifts.

The New England-style Crab Boil was delicious! Thank you, Andrew and Katy Madderson, R.E.A.C.H. Auction 2024 chairs, for buying this package at the 2023 R.E.A.C.H.; we are grateful for their support and Fr. David Mulholland, Pastor; Kirk and Mary Leverson, Dr. Ben & Megan Michels for gifting this wonderful lakeside evening to the auction to support Saint Patrick Catholic School.
The guest rolled up their sleeves, tied on their personalized apron, and enjoyed dinner at the beautiful home of Dr. Ben and Megan Michels. Appetizers and cocktails were served poolside, followed by dinner overlooking serene Gravelly Lake. An assortment of desserts, including beignets and coffee, was served as the sunset.
They enjoyed catching up with friends, the summer weather, and being inspired by the life's work of this exceptional treasure, Fr. David Mulholland. View more photos.
