A Beautiful Night in the Neighborhood
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all all that you need, you will abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:8)

What an absolutely beautiful night in the neighborhood! This year, our annual fundraiser looked a little different than it has in years past, and we are still carrying the joy and excitement of that evening with us. On Thursday, September 3, we gathered at the Heinz History Center for A Beautiful Night in the Neighborhood. For the first time ever, our fundraiser sold out, welcoming nearly 200 people for a night filled with joy, generosity, celebration, and community.

From the moment guests walked through the doors, the room was buzzing with excitement. The evening began with hors d’oeuvres, a beautiful Pittsburgh cookie table, and a delicious buffet in the Grand Hall. Guests enjoyed an incredible selection of raffle baskets and an extensive silent auction before coming together for a lively live auction featuring memorabilia and unforgettable vacation packages. We ended the evening with an emotional paddle raise that reminded us just how deeply this community believes in the mission of Living Stones.

But what made the night truly beautiful was not the food, the auctions, or even the incredible venue. It was the people.

There were so many new faces in the room, giving us the opportunity to share the heart of Living Stones with people who may not have known our story. We shared about the neighbors who walk through our doors, the meals made possible by rescued food, the volunteers who give their time and hearts, and the ways we show up for our neighbors.

It was a joyful and deeply emotional evening, and honestly, we could not have imagined just how incredible it would be.

This year, our team set an ambitious goal of raising $100,000. After expenses, we came remarkably close, finishing just over $3,000 shy of that goal. With the incredible generosity of everyone in the room, along with our sponsors and event underwriters, we raised $96,922!

While this year’s expenses were higher due to the change in venue and increased marketing, we knew that going into the evening. What we did not know was exactly how God would meet us there. He did, through every person who purchased a ticket, sponsored the event, donated an auction item, raised a paddle, volunteered their time, prayed for our ministry, or simply showed up and believed in what we are doing.

And that is what we want you to know: this beautiful night did not happen because of one person or one team. It happened because of all of you.

Every donation matters. Every volunteer matters. Every prayer matters. Every person who tells a friend about Living Stones matters. Every restaurant, church, and community partner who shares their resources matters. Every person who sends a neighbor our way matters. Together, you make it possible for us to continue gathering around tables, sharing meals, building relationships, and creating spaces where our neighbors know they are seen, valued, and welcome.

With Lisa Tyger stepping into a full-time role as our Community Outreach Coordinator and Community Health Worker as of July 1, we are especially excited about what lies ahead. This expanded role gives us even more opportunity to listen, build relationships, understand the needs of the people we serve, and walk alongside our neighbors beyond the meals themselves. We are already looking forward to what God has in store for Living Stones and to the ways we can continue deepening our impact and serving our neighbors well.

Thank you for making this beautiful night possible. Thank you for believing in Living Stones. And thank you for being part of the community that makes this ministry possible, one meal, one conversation, and one neighbor at a time.

Living Stones fosters the cultivation of relationships with neighbors who join us for meals. As relationships develop and deepen, Living Stones volunteers come alongside those individuals and families to assist them in navigating the challenges in their lives and encourage them to find hope in Christ as they learn to trust Him.
