APRIL - 2021
$26,000.00 IN
MATCHING DONATIONS
March turned out to be a very busy and expensive month for us here at Detroit Pit Crew. We rescued a number of dogs with significant injuries and illnesses that all needed emergency veterinary care. One of our supporters reached out to us and has offered to match all donations over the next week up to $26,000.00. This special offer could not have come at a better time as we don’t want to have to go on intake hold due to lack of funds. Donations made in any amount are very much appreciated and will be matched through April 9, 2021. To donate please click on the button below or checks can be mailed to Detroit Pit Crew P.O. Box 3111, Center Line, MI 48015.
PROTECTING THE VOICELESS
In the month of March, we responded to several reports of animal abuse/neglect in the City of Detroit. In two of these cases the dogs were removed, and people have been charged. We are always thankful for the law enforcement officers who step up to assist us with these cases. As an organization we have no legal authority whatsoever so we rely heavily on law enforcement to help us protect the voiceless. In both cases the dogs are doing well, and we promise that they will NEVER EVER be subjected to cruelty or abuse ever again.

If you see something, say something. Be a hero, speak up for the voiceless!

THE MONTH OF APRIL-
DEDICATED TO THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

The month of April is dedicated to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and on April 24, 2021 we will be participating in an event being hosted by the City of Utica, which will be in celebration of some of the animals in Utica that are survivors of animal abuse and it will also be in loving memory of Sterling, a dog that didn’t survive the horrific abuse he suffered. We hope to see our supporters come out and be a part of this important day as we take a stand against animal abuse and speak up for the voiceless. Together we can make a difference so please come out and show your support for this important event.

Animal Cruelty Awareness

I will let you all in on a secret, sometimes veterinary medicine is hard. Some of the hardest cases we deal with involve animal neglect and cruelty cases especially at the ER. There are several things that veterinarians need to do during these cases. When I see a neglect or cruelty case the first step is assessing the animal. They receive a physical exam, we perform diagnostic tests and start treatment if indicated. After we attend the animal then we typically are gathering as much information we can for the prosecuting team that will be fighting in the court. Our thorough medical records are used in court to help bring justice to the voiceless. In the state of Michigan, the intentional abuse of an animal is a felony punishable by up to 4 years in prison. Animal neglect (failure to provide care) is considered a misdemeanor, and becomes a felony for a second or subsequent violation.

This sweet girl is my dog Nysa who was found in a backyard by a good Samaritan with no food or water. Her first night in the ER she almost died. It took her 2 months to gain back enough muscle to walk without a hunched back and where she did not have to wear 2 sweaters to help keep her body heat. Now she loves to cuddle under blankets and keeps everyone in the house in line, including me!
