Bob Duke, President of ASC's new Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Division

I just want to say how thrilled I am to be part if American Standard Circuit’s new Global Sourcing Division. I have been working in this worldwide arena for a number of years now. And I have to say it is the area of the industry that I like best.

This is the first of what will be monthly newsletters about Global Sourcing. My goal is to make this newsletter as interesting and informative as possible. In each monthly issue we will focus on all the new developments going on in the Global Electronics world today. We will talk about the best way to Global Source your products and manage your Global Supply chain.

We will also talk about the easiest and simplest way to source your specific customer products from all over the world.

ASC Global Sourcing Case Study

I had the opportunity to visit this potential customer a number of months ago. The purpose of my visit was to introduce ASC Global Sourcing and to see if there was anything I could do to save them money on items they currently buy or are having trouble sourcing for one reason or another. After a brief Power Point Presentation and a question-and-answer period I always ask for a tour of the factory. There is so much you can learn from a factory tour, and I’ve found that most companies are happy to comply with the request. During the tour I was able to see how the product we were talking about in our meeting was being used, which is helpful but also was able to spot another item during the tour that ASC Global Sourcing could provide. I was told they were happy with the existing supplier and that they’ve been using the same supplier for close to 8 years. In fact, I learned that the supplier was the only supplier approved to produce the product they were supplying and that it was also a critical component in the customer’s end product. I acknowledged their loyalty and the importance of this part, however I offered to provide a quote to see how they would fare against their current supplier. Nothing ventured nothing gained I always say. No harm to see what others would charge as there might be a chance that we could save the customer some money and at the very least provide a second source just in case the unexpected happens. Covid, lead-time issues and price increases tend to happen with no advance warning. Having an alternate source is good insurance! 
 
I’m happy to say that the quote we provided led to a qualification order and that ASC Global Sourcing was able to provide them not only with a quality product, but we were also able to save them a significant amount of money as well.
