Ending Childhood Poverty

Healthcare Oversight
We have submitted a CIS supporting more oversight of the health care delivered to the over 41,000 unsheltered residents of LA. Six other Neighborhood Council's have done the same!
CIS: Naloxone training
We are speaking out to support supplying Naloxone to outreach workers who work with our unhoused neighbors. It's a cheap, safe and potentially life-saving drug for those experiencing an opioid overdose.

Become a 2022 Junior Lifeguard!
Registration for NEW Junior Lifeguards opened March 1, 2022.

Open to children (ages 9 through 17), the mission of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Junior Lifeguard Program is to educate ocean and beach safety, physical conditioning, basic first aid, and environmental awareness while developing the next generation of lifeguards and future leaders.

Redistricting Update
The California Citizens Redistricting Commission will be hosting a series of  “Lessons Learned Meetings” on March 9, 2022 to March 12, 2022 from 9:30am-4:30pm. There will be opportunities for public comment at the end of each day.

Mayor Garcetti Signs Ordinance To
Lower Speed Limits On City Streets
Mayor Eric Garcetti today held a signing ceremony for an ordinance that will lower speed limits on 177 miles of streets across Los Angeles. The bill specifically targets speed limit reductions on streets with high rates of traffic fatalities and severe injuries or heavily-trafficked pedestrian and bicycle routes. Under this framework, the locations of the streets impacted by the ordinance will see speed limit reductions consistent with the City’s Vision Zero program, which specifically designates the City’s High-Injury Network.

Los Angeles College Promise Announces Spring Session
These district-wide sessions are offered in addition to the individual sessions offered by the colleges and will provide the information that students and families need to understand the benefits of LA College Promise and how to apply. Applications Open for CA Mortgage Relief Program
The California Mortgage Relief Program will provide financial assistance to homeowners who have fallen behind on their housing payments. Households at or below 100% AMI are eligible. Visit CAMortgageRelief.org to apply.

Student 2 Student Success (S2S) Accepting Applications
LAUSD students from participating schools can get paid ($15/hr) for tutoring other students living in their households. To learn more and apply, join an info session held every Thursday at 4:30 pm via bit.ly/s2s2022 and/or email s2sprogram@lacity.org with any questions.

LA City Masking Rules to Align with County Health Guidance
Businesses will now have two options; the first being to lift indoor masking requirements for both customers and workers. To be eligible, a business must verify the vaccination status or a negative test result for 100% of their customers and workers. The second option will be to verify the vaccination status or a negative test result for 100% of their customers only. These changes will align with County Health Guidance and allow restaurants to lift masking mandates. Full press release, here.
