Hi!
When I talk with older adults and families, one goal comes up again and again—staying at home. Aging in place is what most people want. Home is familiar, comfortable, and connected to community.
But I also see every day that aging in place doesn’t happen on its own. It takes planning, coordination, and the right supports in place.
For many, remaining at home means relying on a mix of services:
- Home care and personal assistance
- Medical providers and medication management
- Transportation to appointments
- Meals and nutrition programs
- Support for caregivers
The challenge is that these services are often spread across different systems. Without coordination, it can feel overwhelming to figure out what’s available, how to access it, and how everything fits together. This is where RI Elder Info and rielderinfo.com helps our fellow Rhode Islanders.
When communities invest in aging services, we see:
- Better access to home- and community-based services
- More support for family caregivers
- Safer housing and transportation options
- Programs that reduce isolation and keep people connected
Aging in place isn’t just a personal goal—it’s a community responsibility.
If we want older adults to live safely and independently at home, we need to continue strengthening the systems that support them. That means investing in services, improving coordination, and making sure people know where to turn for help.
Because staying at home should be possible—not complicated.
