Hafa Adai Catherine,

The Department of Revenue & Taxation reminds the community that credit card users will be assessed a "convenience fee," which was re-instituted on October 1st. The fee had been absorbed by the Government of Guam since the start of the pandemic however, it was not included in the FY 2025 Budget signed into law last month. The 37th Guam Legislature has advised that the fee will be addressed in upcoming supplemental budget discussions. The Chamber is following this issue and will keep the members abreast of any updates as they occur.

As we step into the fourth quarter of the year, it's time to gear up for some exciting events at the Chamber! Mark your calendars for November 9th, when we will kick off the Chamber Games! This is a fun-tastic opportunity for members to showcase their skills, foster camaraderie, and enjoy friendly competition. There will be something for everyone at the Chamber Games which will highlight:

  • Team Competitions: Form your teams and prepare for various challenges that will test your skills and teamwork.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow members, share ideas, and build lasting relationships.
  • Prizes and Recognition: Compete for exciting prizes and bragging rights as champions of the Chamber Games!

ļ»æJoin Us for the Thrill of Grill BBQ Competition!

While the games are ongoing, our competitors at the grill will showcase their skills at grilling the best chicken and ribs!

How You Can Participate:

  • Register Your Team: Sign up for the Chamber Games and BBQ competition through our website. Spaces are limited, so donā€™t delay!
  • Spread the Word: Share this event with your network to encourage participation and attendance.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: We are looking for volunteers to help make these events a success. If you're interested, please reach out!

The Chamber's Nominating Committee has been reaching out to various Chamber members to consider running for the Board. Members interested in learning more about Board duties and commitments are encouraged to reach out to the Committee led by Director Chris Duenas or the Chamber Team.

Letā€™s make this fourth quarter one to remember by coming together in fun and fellowship. We are excited to see all of you at these upcoming events!

Onward together,

Catherine Castro

President

U.S. Chamber Updates

Q3 2024 Small Business Index

The Q3 MetLife and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Index was released earlier this week. The index score rose slightly from last quarter, showcasing continued optimism. Seventy-three percent of small business owners expect next yearā€™s revenue to increaseā€”identical to last quarter and the highest number recorded since the Index began in 2017. Small businessesā€™ concerns over inflation remain high, and a majority are more interested in the upcoming 2024 presidential election than they were in the 2020 election.

ā€Œ

In the Spotlight:

  • The MetLife & U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Index rose to 71.2 from 69.5 last quarter.
  • Nearly two in five small businesses say the U.S. economy or local economy is in good health this quarter, relatively unchanged from Q3 2023.
  • 78% of small businesses across all regions, sizes, age of ownership, and gender of ownership say that the economy and inflation should be a top priority for the next Congress and presidential administration.

Effects of a Higher Corporate Tax Rate on

ļ»æBusiness and Local Economies

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched a new data center to show the harmful impact of a higher corporate tax rate on businesses, workers, and local economies. The Chamberā€™s new interactive map quantifies the negative impacts on consumer prices, workersā€™ wages, and shareholder returns in every state and congressional district over a 10-year period.

ā€Œ

This new interactive map is the latest effort in the Chamberā€™s Growing Americaā€™s Future campaign, an education and advocacy effort in support of maintaining a pro-growth tax code to foster a robust economy that benefits all Americans. The campaign kicked off in May at the Chamberā€™s 2024 Tax Policy Summit.

ā€Œ

For a full list of state- and district-level data and a description of the Chamberā€™s methodology, visit the new data center.
