Whether a first-time racer, experienced competitor, or guest at the post-race party, you couldn’t help but feel the excitement, enthusiasm, and anticipation that permeated our Sept. 16 fundraiser from beginning to end. Who would win the coveted first-place trophy? Which of the sweets on that incredible cookie table would you like best? Could your silent auction bid actually win that white water rafting trip your family would love? But most importantly, how much money would be raised to not only continue, but expand, God’s Living Stones ministry?
The suspense is over, and whether or not you went home with a treasure from the silent auction, a box or two of delectable cookies, or simply wonderful memories of an evening full of fun and fellowship, you were a winner. In fact, everyone was a winner, not only those who organized, attended, and supported the event, but our neighbors who will now receive more of the help they need and we are eager to provide.
The money received from this year’s fundraiser will enable us to:
- Expand our meal ministry
- Purchase and maintain commercial freezers, refrigerators, and ovens
- Augment our donated food supply
- Purchase single-serve and other supplies
- Continue to employ a Community Health Worker, volunteer coordinator, and meal ministry lead
- Purchase supplies to support our free clothing closet, haircuts, and craft times
- Strengthen the infrastructure necessary to support our growing organization.
So, just how successful was this event in terms of dollars? Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of many individuals, organizations, and businesses, we were blessed to raise slightly more than $60,000, after expenses. That’s 21% more than last year, and 39% more than the first year. Of particular interest is the growth of income from our silent auction, which was 78% more this year than last, and 254% more than the first year. A special, heartfelt thank-you to all donors and shoppers!
As we reflect on this event, we are humbly aware of God’s provision, and are profoundly grateful to Him and to everyone who contributed so generously to His ministry. The results inspire and encourage us to move forward with conviction and enthusiasm, and to plan another Amazing Race Against Hunger next year. This popular event will return on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us! Until then, we hope you will enjoy looking at some of the photos that help capture the spirit of this year’s super fun fundraiser!
