Washington Crossing Council and Garden State Council have partnered with the Trenton Thunder to launch something new for 2025. Scouts will help the thunder community collect recyclable containers from fans during the game in an effort to reduce the amount of waste produced during the baseball game.
Here's what you need to know to participate:
- Units can sign up to participate using the Signup Genius link below
- A unit should bring 2-6 Scouts to the game they've signed up for. Each Scout will get 2 free tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $8 each.
- Scouts and registered leaders should wear their uniform to the game.
- Scouts, with the assistance of Trenton Thunder Staff, will collect recyclables from patrons during the 2nd, 4th, and 6th innings. Scouts will not pick up trash or perform any other tasks.
- This opportunity is available to Scouts, Explorers, Sea Scouts, and Venturers ages 14 & up

April Showers Bring Spring Recruitment Strategy!
The April Roundtable meeting was all about recruitment. Attendees discussed the difference between dynamic and static unit recruiting. Unit leaders throughout the district then teamed up to work on methods for communicating unit values to potential members, and many leaders shared resources and personal experiences in building up the rosters in their troops and packs.
Please send at least 1 adult leader from each unit to the May Roundtable meeting on May 14th. More info is at the bottom of the newsletter!

Some Advancement Q&A
The 2025 Guide to Advancement includes some changes and reinforces long-standing policies for advancement in Scouting America programs. This essential document should guide all Scouting America volunteers. Here are some Q&A’s highlighted by M.A.D. Advancement Chair Michael Merritt:
Q: Should Boards of Review be delayed to accommodate schedules of non-participants?
A: The chair works with all involved parties to schedule the date, time, and place. The Board of Review should happen promptly and not be delayed for reasons unrelated to rank requirements. The Scout’s parents, relatives, or guardians should not be in attendance in any capacity—not as members of the board, as observers, or even as the unit leader.
Q: Does the Eagle Project have to be the last requirement finished? Should a Life Scout be advised to delay their project?
A: No. A Scout can begin planning their project as soon as they become a Life Scout. That said, many Scouts find it helpful to focus on merit badges first and the Eagle project second (or vice versa).
Q: Online worksheets are great tools…do they completely suffice to meet merit badge requirements?
A: Worksheets and other materials that may be of assistance in earning merit badges are available from a variety of unofficial sources. Use of these aids is permissible as long as the materials can be correlated with the current requirements that Scouts must fulfill. Completing “worksheets” may suffice where a requirement calls for something in writing, but not for a requirement where the Scout must discuss, tell, show, or demonstrate, etc.
