Some Antibiotics Linked to Serious Nerve Damage
Aug. 27, 2013
-- The FDA is strengthening its warning that a popular class of
antibiotics
, called fluoroquinolones, may cause sudden, serious, and potentially permanent
nerve damage
called
peripheral neuropathy
. Fluoroquinolones are
antibiotics
that are commonly used to treat a variety of illnesses such as respiratory and
urinary tract infections
. These medicines include
ciprofloxacin
(
Cipro
),
gemifloxacin
(Factive),
levofloxacin
(
Levaquin
),
moxifloxacin
(
Avelox
),
norfloxacin
(
Noroxin
), and
ofloxacin
(
Floxin
). More than 23 million patients received a prescription for one of them in 2011.

Flox (verb):
The act of suffering from an adverse reaction to a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
Floxie (noun):
A person who has been floxed. Floxies suffer in a myriad of ways and display a large variety of symptoms.
Being floxed can include the following, and more:
|
|

Tingling, numbness, prickling, burning pain, pins/needles sensation, electrical or shooting pain, skin crawling, sensation, hyperesthesia, hypoesthesia, allodynia (sensitivity to touch), numbness, weakness, twitching, tremors, spasms.
Central Nervous System:
Dizziness, malaise, weakness, impaired coordination, nightmares,
insomnia, headaches, agitation, anxiety, panic attacks, disorientation, impaired concentration or
memory, confusion, depersonalization, hallucinations, psychoses.
Musculoskeletal:
Muscle pain, weakness, soreness; joint swelling, pain; tendon pain, ruptures.

The Floxie Hope website exists to give
HOPE
to those who are suffering from Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome as a result of being poisoned by fluoroquinolone antibiotics β Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox, Floxin, etc. It contains stories of healing.

Michelle shares with us her story of devastating fluoride toxicity "floxicity" and how she went about restoring her health.
|
|
|
Michelle used key nutrients and dietary change to restore her health.
Chief among them
antioxidants
- as you well know if you know me, I would employ the use of
aceytlated glutathione
, and as you are going to learn from me next time,
high-dose melatonin
(so exciting!). These are the most powerful antioxidants.
Michelle also worked to
remove fluoride
from her tissues with selenium and tamarind. Again, if you know me, I would be using iodine along with the selenium.
Iodine
forces fluoride, chlorine, bromine, and other hallides from the tissues in the body they are occupying as "squatters."
Iodine and selenium
work as a team.
Michelle used
mitochondrial boosting nutrients
such as CoQ10, PQQ, lipoic acid, l-carnitine. High dose melatonin and glutathione are also potent mitochondrial nutrient boosters, and, again, if you know me, I call myself The Glutathione Girl and The Mitochondriac!
Magnesium,
and in a form I've often recommended for the brain and central nervous system called
magnesium-l-threonate
. It was invented by researchers at MIT and is unique in its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Michelle also used magnesium in Epsom salt baths and in
topically applied magnesium oil
- which actually isn't an oil at all, but the consistency of magnesium chloride, which is what it is, is a bit "oily," hence, the term.
Finally,
Michelle changed her
diet
to one that is
Paleo/ketogenic
- based.
