The Washington County Arts Council presents the
"St. Maria Goretti Catholic High School Student Art Show
with Art Teacher, Erin Ruff" in the Main and Hall Galleries,
Thursday, March 5, 2020 extended through April, 2020.
The Washington County Arts Council announces the postponement of its April & May 2020 exhibits, which will be rescheduled in 2021.

Washington County Historical Society’s Culture & Cocktails Goes Virtual
Buy a Virtual Drink – Win a Chance for Tickets to an Upcoming Culture & Cocktails

Hagerstown, MD:
Join the Washington County Historical Society as it hosts its first ever virtual Culture & Cocktails from 6-8pm, on Friday, April 10, 2020. There will be no gathering since everyone is sheltering in place. But, our speaker, Nichole Doub, of the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, will be take us on a video tour of her facility and update us on her current project, the restoration of Sgt. Jacob Huyett’s Calvary Helmet. Our featured April cocktail is The Scofflaw, and we have included the recipe for all adults to make and enjoy at home.

Here’s a great opportunity for fun and networking while observing social distancing! Your participation also helps the Society compensate for the lost revenue due to observance of COVID-19 guidelines.

Here’s how it works: Purchase one or more $5 tickets on Eventbrite. Within a short time, we will send you a link to join our event. Post a picture of you and your cocktail (The Scofflaw or your beverage of choice) to the WCHS Facebook page on or before Friday April 10 before 7:30pm.  Each ticket purchased will be eligible to win either two tickets to a future Culture & Cocktails (valued at $30) or a $25 VISA gift card – winner’s choice. The winning ticket with a Facebook post will be announced on the WCHS’s Facebook page at 8pm on Friday, April 10.

Recipe for The Scofflaw:
•   2 oz Bourbon or rye whiskey
•   1 oz Dry vermouth
•   1/4 oz Fresh lemon juice
•   1/2 oz Grenadine
•   2 dashes Orange bitters
•   Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake.
•   Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

All Maryland Symphony Orchestra Concerts at The Maryland Theatre
Through June 30 are Cancelled

Message from the Maryland Symphony Orchestra
 Due to an extension of the Public Health Order in the State of Maryland prohibiting gatherings of 10 or more persons to slow the spread of COVID-19, there will be no additional Maryland Symphony Orchestra concerts at The Maryland Theatre through June 30.

The health and well-being of our staff, our audiences and our community are our top priority. Based on the current situation and the latest government guidance, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining performances for the 2019/20 concert season. These performances are not being rescheduled at this time.

THE FOLLOWING CONCERTS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED:
•   March 14-15: Mozart & Mahler
•   April 4-5: Ports of Call: Journeys and Discoveries with Sharon Isbin
•   May 9: To Whitney, With Love

The following options are available for those who have already purchased tickets to cancelled concerts:
•   Donate your ticket(s) and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value.
•   Receive a refund for the value of the ticket(s).

Ticketholders are encouraged to consider donating the cost of their ticket back to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. This helps support the organization as an arts nonprofit during this challenging time as we navigate the significant, ongoing impact of the COVID-19 situation.

All requests for ticket donations and refunds must be received by May 1, 2020. For assistance, please contact the Box Office by phone at 301-797-4000 or email at tickets@marylandsymphony.org. Box Office hours (for phone and emails only) are Mon–Fri: 11am–4:30pm. The administrative offices of the orchestra will remain closed until it is safe to reopen.

The Augustoberfest Charitable Foundation is excited to reveal the 25th anniversary Augustoberfest logo and to announce the dates for this summer’s 25th Annual Augustoberfest. The traditional two-day celebration of the area’s German heritage will take place August 15 and 16, 2020 in downtown Hagerstown. In addition to its celebratory exploits, Augustoberfest also serves as a fundraiser for Hagerstown’s sister city student exchange program with Wesel, Germany.
Remembering Sue Hess
1932-2020
The Maryland State Arts Council mourns the passing of Sue Hess. Sue was an icon in the arts community of Maryland. In the 1980’s, along with a small group of like-minded arts supporters, she created Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA). This grew into the unified advocacy organization for all artists and arts organizations in Maryland. MCA’s effectiveness is a major factor in the steadily increasing public support for the Maryland State Arts Council, and through the Council to the statewide arts community.

Sue was a warm and vibrant presence as well as a tireless and eloquent advocate for the arts. For those fortunate enough to have known her and for all those who never met her but who have benefited so greatly from her life’s work, she will be very much remembered and missed.

The Maryland Theatre Box Office is currently closed until further notice.
In conformance with the public health guidelines issued by state of Maryland, and due to the threat of COVID-19, all public performances and events scheduled at The Maryland Theatre through April 6th will be canceled effective immediately.
We ask for your patience as we continue to work through event cancellations, postponements and rescheduling. Ticket holders will be contacted via Ticketmaster and The Maryland Theatre Box Office.

Washington County's Community Listening Session with AEMS (Arts Education in Maryland Schools) will take place on Monday, May 4, 2020 from 7pm-8:30pm at the Barbara Ingram School, 7 S Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740

Arts Education in Maryland Schools (AEMS) believes that arts education is a civil right. The benefits of arts education in children's lives are fundamental, universal, and transformative. As an organization that works to ensure that all of Maryland's public-school children have access to quality arts education, AEMS is coming to your district to learn more about how best to support and advocate for arts education in your schools.

AEMS's Arts Education Community Meetings are open to arts educators, school administrators, local leaders, and parents, so AEMS can understand the challenges, victories, and impact of arts education through small breakout group conversations.

Come share your story, AEMS is here to support the community in bringing quality arts education to every student in every school in every district!
