Start Time: 12:00am--End Time: 11:59pm

The Potomac Playmakers announce auditions for the first show of the 2020-2021 Season, the classic musical by Peter Masterson, Carol Hall, and Larry L. King, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas! It is the late 1970s, and a brothel has been operating outside of Gilbert, Texas for more than a century. When a crusading television reporter decides to make the illegal activity an issue, the political ramifications cause pressure to close the brothel down! Presented with the kind permission of Concord Theatricals, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas will be directed by Maverick McKee and Andrew Shifler, with musical direction by Ruthy Stenger Japzon and Christopher Leatherman, and choreography by Colleen Cheney. Given the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic and related government orders, auditions will be conducted via video submissions sent to maverick.a.mckee@gmail.com. Audition submissions will be accepted from June 2, 2020 through June 12, 2020 at 11:59 p.m., and shall consist of the following: 1) Performer’s name and role(s) being auditioned for; 2) a copy of the performer’s theatrical resume’ and headshot; 3) a video clip of the performer singing 16 bars of a song not included in the show, with or without accompaniment; 4) a video clip of the performer singing 16 bars of a song from the show (Twenty Fans for male performers, and Hard Candy Christmas for female performers), and; 5) a separate video of the performer dancing to prepared choreography (Instructions will be posted online on The Potomac Playmakers’ Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/255276158878702/) Please advise in the email sent with the requested video clips whether the performer is willing to accept a role other than what is being auditioned for, whether the performer would be willing to work backstage if not cast in the show, and whether any scheduling conflicts exist for potential rehearsal times. Auditions for Best Little Whorehouse In Texas are open to anyone ages 17 and older. Performers under 18 years of age will be asked to provide parental consent before auditioning. Performers planning to audition for “working girls” and “Aggies” must be over 18 years of age. Callbacks will be conducted by appointment only on June 15 and June 16, 2020 subject to government orders and social distancing regulations. Performers at callback auditions will be asked to conduct cold readings from the script and may be asked to sing other numbers from the show related to specific characters. Familiarity with all songs in the show is strongly encouraged. The show is scheduled to run September 11-13 and September 18-20, 2020, with dates subject to change. Please contact Maverick McKee with any questions at maverick.a.mckee@gmail.com. The Potomac Playmakers, founded in 1926, is one of the nation's longest running active community theatre groups.
