A New Standard of Heat-Related Safety May Be in the Works

Eyes are on the Occupational Safety & Health Administration as a possible heat injury and illness prevention rulemaking has begun.

While excessive heat has always been a concern for the construction industry, 18 of the last 19 years have been the hottest on record. From 1992 through 2017, heat stress in the United States has killed 815 workers and seriously injured over 70,000 workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Yet, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) believes the numbers are even higher as heat-related injuries and deaths can be misclassified and underreported.

SELECT Education Class Fees Can Be Paid By ETF

About the Employment & Training Fund. In 1991, the State Legislature established the ETF program to address the growing need to upgrade the job skills of Hawaii's workforce, created as part of a national movement that swept the country in the 1980s. Investing in human capital to improve productivity and the nation's quality of goods and services became a top priority. The Employer Referral ("micro") program is for individual businesses that need to upgrade the job skills of their employees.

BIA Hawaii is an approved Training Provider. ETF will cover 50% of the Non-Member course fee rate for select courses, up to a maximum of $400.

UPCOMING COURSES
The concepts discussed in this course will enable industry professionals to produce marketable projects that support the changing needs of clients over their lifetime. The audience for this course includes CAP Specialist graduates, home building industry professionals, health care professionals and the home buying consumer.

This course parallels the NAHB Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) courses by shifting focus from custom accessibility-related modifications to the successful integration of Universal Design as part of far more single-family residential construction projects; new construction as well as remodeling, affordable to luxury.
Your company's success is based on managing your finances effectively. This course provides you with the basics of financial planning, budgeting construction business accounting, job cost systems and financing options so you can track and analyze the cost of goods, overhead and individual job costs and communicate about them effectively. Topics include accounting terminology, a chart of accounts, types of records and reports to be maintained and loan products that can provide financing alternatives.
