Virtual STEAM Family Night
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math

Families, please join us for STEAM night on February 25th from 5pm - 7pm. Your PTA has curated an evening chalk full of exciting activities to engage our young leaners.

Kinders, 1st, and 2nd graders can log in using this Team Link. This age group will enjoy an interactive presentation from Pacific Science Center called "Radical Reactions" (think mad scientist meets a magical sorcerer!). Kids will get to watch a live and interactive presentation with awesome chemical reactions, controlled explosions, and even watch a scientist create an elephant toothpaste! Kiddos will also get to play fun math games hosted by our local sponsor Mathnasium, and will learn about a variety of instruments from our local musicians at Bach 2 Rock.

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders can log in using this Teams Link. This age group will emjoy and interactive presentation from Pacific Science Center called "Night Sky Tonight." Kiddos will get an inside peek into the Center's planetarium and will learn about constellations and the magical effect of our earth's axis. Like the younger group, oru older leaners will also get to play interactive games with Mathnasium and will hear some awesome music producer by Bach 2 Rock.
Safety Patrol Members!

Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated. You set a fine example for the younger kids at school. Thank you for being the responsible leaders of our school and keeping our community safe.

Message from your Norman Rockwell PTA Sustainability Chair

Dear Rockwell Families,

This school year, I assumed the position of Sustainability Chair, Norman Rockwell PTA. Some of you know me from being the LEGO chair, Running Club or Art Docent parent volunteer. Sustainability is actively discussed under the structure of the Lake Washington PTSA Council. In this role, it is my intention to parse out the larger discussion at the Council level and bring that to you through the Bugle newsletter.

At the last LWPTSA Council Sustainability Committee meeting, some of the Sustainability Chairs from other LWSD schools shared their thoughts on the movie "Don't Look Up." Have you seen it?

In my next piece, I will add in Green Tips, Legislative action/advocacy and important dates.

Have a great week ahead!

Sustainability Chair, Norman Rockwell PTA

Annual Dr. Seuss Multilingual Virtual Read Aloud Event in the Library!

Every year we celebrate Read Across America week and Dr. Seuss' birthday with a Multilingual read aloud with his books printed in languages other than English. Due to safety concerns, this year's event will be a virtual one, utilizing FlipGrid to create read aloud videos at home. Then these videos will be shared with the entire school to view online.

The virtual event will be held the week of March 1st, 2022

Here is how it will work:

  • Parents/students express interest in participating and sign up for a book in the home language. Contact me for a list of titles and languages.
  • Rockwell will check out the book in English AND the chosen languages (to the student), then deliver to the child in their classroom
  • Parents/Students will record themselves on FlipGrid reading the books (tutorial on how to do this will be shared later this month - once we have sign ups and books are distributed)
  • FlipGrid videos wills be shared with all classes the first week of March, 2022.

Once you received a list of titles/languages from me, find a book in your home language, discuss with you family on whether you want to participate. Then email me if you want to sign up. I will add your students name/your name to the list with the book you want to read.

If you would like to participate, please contact me no later than February 22nd, 2022.

I am so excited to continue to celebrate our students' culture and language while reading these classic, fun books!

Lunch Recess Volunteers Needed

We have an immediate need for parent volunteers to assist with lunch recess. Volunteers are needed to help Monday through Friday, for shifts between 11:40AM and 1:00PM. Volunteers will help coordinate specific recess activities for kiddos during lunch recess.

Specifically, volunteers will help manage a small group of kids for specific games (i.e. red light/green light game, coloring station, loom band crafts, shark/minnows sports challenges, HORSE basketball games, etc.) We'd love to have 4-6 parents helping each and every day. Even if you're not able to help the whole shift, we'd love the extra hands for even half and hour. In case you'd like to coordinate your volunteer shift to align with your child's recess, here's the recess schedule:

Kindergarten: 11:40AM - 12:00PM
1st Grade: 11:50AM - 12:30PM
2nd Grade: 12:00PM - 12:30PM
3rd Grade: 12:10PM - 12:40PM
4th Grade: 12:20PM - 12:50PM
5th Grade: 12:30PM - 1:00PM

This is an on-going volunteer opportunity, and we'd love for you to sign up for one shift, or even a dozen. To volunteer, please sign-up HERE

PLEASE NOTE: You must be an approved LWSD volunteer (you can apply HERE if you're not already a registered volunteer). You also need to verify your vaccination status with the district, or Stacy Hatch in our front office (you must bring your vaccination card and ID).

If you have any questions, please email Sri at volunteering@normanrockwellpta.org
