The self-assessment is a crucial component of the College’s Quality Assurance Program. The self-assessment helps kinesiologists to reflect on their practice, the College’s Practice Standards and the Essential Competencies of Practice. Reflecting on these questions allow kinesiologists to identify any opportunities for growth and development, and make an individual, self-directed learning plan.

Kinesiologists are required to complete the self-assessment every two years. It can be accessed through the Self-Assessment Portal.

If you have any questions, click here to learn more about the self-assessment, or reach out to professionalpractice@coko.ca.

Professional Liability Insurance (PLI)

If you are registered in the general class, you are required to have valid PLI that meets the College’s requirements, regardless of your employment status or whether you are actively practicing within the scope of kinesiology practice.

Each kinesiologist’s PLI must satisfy the following as defined in the College’s by-laws:

  1. a minimum amount of $1,000,000 per occurrence;
  2. a minimum aggregate amount of $3,000,000 per year;
  3. a deductible of no more than $1,000 per occurrence;
  4. where the insurance is of the claims-made type, the member shall have enduring (tail) insurance to provide coverage for at least five years after the termination of the insurance; and
  5. the provider must either be licensed as an insurer with the Financial Services Commission or Ontario or must be in the form of membership in a protective association acceptable to the Registrar that provides equivalent protection.

Kinesiology professional liability insurance requires renewal each year. When your insurance will be expiring, or if your policy or provider has changed, remember to submit your updated PLI coverage to info@coko.ca with the subject line ‘Updated PLI.’

Infection Control and Prevention

As temperatures drop and respiratory viruses increase, it's a great idea to review Ontario's data on respiratory viruses. This tool provided by Public Health Ontario offers insights into respiratory virus activity in Ontario, including COVID-19, influenza, RSV, and more. It tracks  data such as case trends, outcomes, laboratory testing and outbreaks.
