Exam Development

Following Council’s approval of the updated Core Competency Profile in March, the CKO kicked off exam development this summer. Subject matter experts have mapped existing exam item to the revised competencies, and the CKO hosted its first item writing sessions on July 17 and 18. All updates will be reflected in the April 2025 exam.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all subject matter experts who volunteered their time to support these essential activities!

Quality Assurance Program:

Introduction to the eLearning Modules

This article is the second of a running series on the CKO's Quality Assurance program after last months article on the Peer and Practice Assessment. The intent is to shed some light on some of the QA programs that kinesiologists may not know about or be less familiar with. The second program, and one that's coming soon, is the eLearning Modules.

There are currently two eLearning Modules: Ethics & Professionalism and Prevention of Sexual Abuse that are launched together once a year between September 1 - October 31. While the modules are a refresher for all kinesiologists, new registrants must complete both modules before the deadline.

Practice Guideline Survey Series - Consent

To help identify learning opportunities and facilitate communication between kinesiologists and the CKO, the CKO is continuing its series of surveys regarding Practice Standards and Guidelines. The fifth survey of this series is related to Consent. This is crucial information for regulated health professionals, given the importance of choice, dignity and autonomy.

Practice Standards and Guidelines Survey

Advertising Response Report

CKO launched the second Practice Standards and Guidelines survey on the Practice Guideline – Advertising in June. We received many responses from kinesiologists and are pleased to provide a report on the survey results. Some highlights:

  • 91% of participants correctly responded that appropriate advertising can “help the public choose a provider based on their needs and help other health professionals make referral decisions.”

  • 45% of participants responded that kinesiologists can “Never” send advertising directly by email. Is this correct? Learn more by reviewing the full survey results!
