Mandatory Reporting Protects the Public and Upholds Professional Standards

Timely and accurate reporting helps the College respond quickly to potential risks to the public and ensure that only qualified and ethical professionals remain in practice.

Kinesiologists are required to report concerns such as sexual abuse, professional misconduct, or incompetence to the College. Self-reporting is also required when a kinesiologist:

  • has been charged with or found guilty of an offence;
  • is subject to any bail or similar restrictions; and/or
  • if another regulatory body has made a finding or begun a proceeding regarding the kinesiologist.

Kinesiologists’ employers, and the operators of facilities where kinesiologists practice, are also required to make reports to the College, typically where sexual abuse, professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity may be known or reasonably suspected.

Important Notice on Kinesiology Certification in Ontario

The College is aware of courses being offered that claim to lead to ‘certification’ in kinesiology. These courses do not meet the education requirements for registration with the College.

Only individuals who are registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario are authorized to use the title “kinesiologist” in Ontario. No certification or education program will allow a person who is not a member of the College to use that title in Ontario. For full details, please visit this link.

If your students or unregulated support personnel may be considering registration with the College, they should reach out to the College or review the College’s website for accurate information about the College’s educational entry-to-practice requirements.

Continuing Professional Development Opportunity: Peer Circles

If you may be looking for a way to achieve the continuing professional development goals that you set in your Self-Assessment, you may be interested in the College’s Peer Circles program.

Peer circles allow kinesiologists to come together in small, virtual groups to discuss issues relevant to their practice and work through case studies. They provide an opportunity to learn and develop professional skills with fellow kinesiologists, while growing your professional network. A trained facilitator who is also a registered kinesiologist will help guide the group through problem solving discussion and work through the case scenarios. These groups will help improve your communication, problem solving and collaboration skills.

Peer circles will provide a safe space for kinesiologists to have candid discussions around their struggles and experiences within the confidential bounds of the Quality Assurance Program.

Exam Development

Exam development is an ongoing process designed to ensure that assessments are fair, reliable, and of the highest quality. In March, the Item Writing Committee and the Examination Committee convened to review and refine exam items developed earlier this year. Their expertise plays a crucial role in ensuring that our exams remain rigorous, relevant, and in alignment with industry standards.
